The Los Angeles Rams make two new signings to bolster depth with training camp underway.
The Los Angeles Rams have made two signings on Monday.
The team announced that they have signed free agent safety Alex Cook and offensive lineman Bill Murray.
Cook, 27, comes to Los Angeles after spending time with four NFL organizations. At the beginning of the year, Cook was selected by the Birmingham Stallions of the United Football League (UFL).
The Washington product went undrafted in the 2023 NFL Draft. He signed with the New York Giants shortly after, but did not make the active roster. However, Cook was signed to their practice squad.
Halfway through the 2023 season, the Carolina Panthers signed Cook to their active roster off the Giants' practice squad. He spent the rest of the season in Carolina, was ultimately waived by the team in August 2024, and was re-signed to the practice squad. He was released on December 3.
A few weeks later, he signed with the Giants practice squad.
In early January 2025, Cook signed a reserve/future contract with the Chicago Bears. He was waived on August 25.
The Sacramento native will likely compete for a depth role in the Rams' secondary. Los Angeles’ secondary depth is a big question heading into the season. Cook will have a chance to make the 53-man roster should he showcase some good skills in training camp.
As for Murray, he will join his fifth organization of his career after going undrafted in 2020.
The offensive guard has been in the league for the past six seasons, first with the New England Patriots. New England signed him as an undrafted free agent, and he spent the first four seasons with the club.
Murray was released by the club in late August 2023 after playing in only one game for the Patriots.
Two days after he was waived by the Patriots, the Chicago Bears signed him to the practice squad. Murray signed a reserve/future contract with Chicago in early January 2024.
In April of that year, Murray signed an exclusive rights free agent contract with the Bears. Prior to the start of the preseason in 2024, he was waived with an injury designation.
In November of 2025, Murray signed with the Patriots practice squad but was released a few weeks later. In mid-December 2025, Murray signed with the Indianapolis Colts practice squad. He signed a reserve/future contract with Indianapolis in early January 2026.
In late April 2026, Murray was released by the Colts.
Murray will compete for a depth role on the Rams' offensive line, as that unit has a ton of concerns as the season approaches.
