In the same manner that former Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Cooper Kupp mentored Puka Nacua when he arrived, Kupp was also mentored by longtime veteran Robert Woods.
Woods announced his retirement from the NFL after 13 seasons, signing a one-day contract to retire as a member of the Rams organization. Kupp took to social media to pen an emotional tribute to the player he looked up to.
Woods and Kupp spent plenty of time together, spending the 2017 to 2021 seasons lining up alongside one another.
Woods and Kupp combined to create one of the best tandems in the NFL as receivers, as both hit the 1,000 receiving mark during the 2019 season. They would also win a Super Bowl together in 2021, despite Woods suffering a season-ending ACL tear.
Kupp understands completely the impact that Woods had on the game of football, along with the impact he had on shaping his career.
"Incredible career. Worth its weight in just sheer productivity, but holds its greatest value in the people that have benefited from being your teammate and learning the game from you.
"Played the game the right way, whatever that means, but it means something to me because I just tried to do exactly what you do.
"Always will appreciate you Bobby Trees!" Kupp wrote on X.
Kupp is now a member of the Seattle Seahawks, where he signed a three-year deal after his exit from the Rams. He has secured his second Super Bowl win, bringing in 593 yards and two touchdowns in the regular season, and 157 yards and one touchdown in the postseason.
Kupp had a huge 13-yard touchdowncatch in the NFC Championship during the third quarter, which helped pad the score for the Seahawks.
Even though Kupp is now playing for the Seahawks, he is likely to follow the route that Woods has taken, which is to sign a one-day contract to retire as a member of the Rams when his career is over.
Kupp's career has also been solid, and a reason for that is the leadership that he saw in Woods, which is a leadership he helped to pass to Nacua, and is likely doing so with the receivers on the Seahawks as well.
