The Los Angeles Rams may seek to shut down Davante Adams for the rest of the regular season to get him healthy for the playoffs.
Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Davante Adams missed most of Week 15 practice due to a hamstring injury. Despite the injury that sidelined him that week, he would still suit up against the Detroit Lions.
Adams's joining the game led to him re-aggravating the hamstring and being pulled from the game. The Rams would then sideline him for Week 16 against the Seattle Seahawks, allowing him a week to heal.
Initially, Rams head coach Sean McVay said the team would give Adams "every chance" to play against the Seahawks, but that would not be the case, especially on a short week.
Now, it appears that Adams is set to miss another game. Even on a mini bye week, as the Rams played on Thursday, they are now set for a Monday night showdown with the Atlanta Falcons.
McVay indicated that Adams is doubtful for the game, which would leave the final Week 18 game for him to return. However, the possibility of the star receiver playing again in the regular season could be in doubt.
ESPN's Jeremy Fowler wrote about the situation, indicating there is a chance that the Rams "could" shut Adams down.
"The Rams very well could shut down Davante Adams (hamstring) for the final two regular-season games. Coach Sean McVay already declared Adams doubtful for Monday night vs. Atlanta, and a team source told me that it wouldn't be a surprise to see Adams miss Week 18 vs. Arizona, another game the Rams can win without their star receiver. The goal is to ensure Adams is 100 percent for the first week of the playoffs. Technically, he's week-to-week with an injury that hampered him weeks before he aggravated it vs. Detroit on Dec. 14," Fowler said.
It would not be the least bit shocking if McVay chose to shut Adams down, as him being healthy for the playoffs is far more important.
There are also the playoffs to think about. If the Seattle Seahawks win on Sunday, they will secure the top seed in the NFC. That will leave the Rams little else to play for.
McVay could choose to rest starters for Week 18 anyway, leaving Adams another week to get truly healthy.
Considering the playoffs are right around the corner, it would make far more sense for Adams to truly heal and get his hamstring right. There is no sense in the Rams rushing him back on the field in Week 18 to potentially suffer another aggravation.
