The Los Angeles Rams could make a move for LSU quarterback Garrett Nussmeier, as they are set to visit him ahead of the 2026 NFL Draft.
The Los Angeles Rams will look to bring in some young and proven talent in the upcoming 2026 NFL Draft.
Rams general manager Les Snead has shown he is capable of drafting talent and impactful players, but there is one position that still remains a mystery: quarterback. Though Snead has said the team is not in a rush to find Matthew Stafford's successor, it is also not a guarantee that a passer will not be drafted.
The Los Angeles brass typically doesn’t put much emphasis on pre-draft visits, which makes it notable that they’re set to meet with LSU quarterback Garrett Nussmeier.
Nussmeier shared in an interview on Wednesday that the Rams are “coming into town” for a pre-draft visit.
“I’ve got the Jets in the next couple of days, I’ve got the Rams coming into town, I’m heading out to Indianapolis, heading to Gruden this weekend, which I’m excited for. That’s going to be a lot of fun,” Nussmeier said.
Nussmeier also said that he is set to meet with other NFL teams, like the New York Jets and Indianapolis Colts, ahead of the draft. The senior quarterback is among the top three quarterbacks available in this year's draft.
Some analysts believe he is the second-best quarterback prospect behind Indiana's Fernando Mendoza.
Stafford is set to begin his 18th season in Los Angeles. He has shown he still has plenty left in the tank, winning MVP last season, but the bigger question is whether he wants to keep playing past 2026.
That remains uncertain, but what is clear is that he’s closer to the end of his career than the beginning. While his job security with the Rams isn’t in doubt, the franchise needs to start evaluating future options. That’s where Nussmeier could come into play as a potential successor.
Nussmeier played five seasons in Baton Rouge. He was a highly productive gunslinger known for his elite arm talent and ability to throw the ball under immense pressure.
The 24-year-old was phenomenal in his time at LSU. In his college career, Nussmeier recorded 660 completions for 7,699 yards, a completion percentage of 64 percent, 52 touchdowns, 24 interceptions and a passer efficiency rating of 138.6. On top of that, he averaged 192.5 yards per game, with his career high coming in 2024, averaging 311.7 yards.
Nussmeier's best season came in 2024, and while that was two seasons ago, that season offers insight into his potential. The Louisiana native possesses excellent skills, like bouncing and declining to avoid the rush and get to his launching point, and takes very few unnecessary sacks.
His traits don’t necessarily project as an ideal fit for Sean McVay’s system, but the upcoming meeting suggests the Rams may see things differently.
