Los Angeles Rams general manager Les Snead discussed the possibility of moving up in the upcoming NFL Draft.
During the annual league meeting on Monday, Snead said that it is unlikely that the Rams will trade up in the draft. Rather, it is more likely that the Rams trade down and accumulate more draft picks, as they've done in years past.
"I think, if I were being realistic, more than likely we don't move up, because the price point to move up, depending on how the thing goes, you always go, can you as you go in your situation," Snead said.
The Rams' general manager went on to say that if some of the top prospects are already off the board, Los Angeles might consider trading back in the draft to accumulate additional picks, as it has been their way to maximize their selections.
The Rams enter April's draft with the No. 13 overall pick.
Snead and the Rams brass are no strangers to trading back in the draft, especially in the first round.
The sequence began in 2016 when the Rams traded up to secure the No. 1 overall pick and select Jared Goff.
Since then, the Rams have been active with their first-round picks: they traded their 2018 selection for Brandin Cooks, moved out of the first round in a draft-day deal with the Atlanta Falcons in 2019, swapped their 2020 and 2021 first-rounders for All-Pro Jalen Ramsey, traded their 2022 and 2023 first-round selections for Matthew Stafford, and last season sent their first-round pick to the Falcons in another draft-day move.
The Rams went seven drafts without a first-round pick until the 2024 draft. Los Angeles held the No. 19 pick in that draft and selected edge rusher Jared Verse. Verse made an immediate impact on the Rams' defense and finished second in Defensive Rookie of the Year voting.
Now, enter 2026, where the Rams started the offseason with two first-round selections. However, Snead and the Rams used one of those picks to trade for All-Pro cornerback Trent McDuffie. The move for McDuffie signaled that the Rams are all-in this season, as they are doing all they can to hoist another Lombardi Trophy.
The Rams are loaded with talent on both sides of the ball, led by Stafford on the offense and now McDuffie on the defense.
Los Angeles came up short this past season for a handful of seasons. However, if they believe there is a game-changer with their No. 13 overall pick, they'll stand pat.
