The Los Angeles Rams had a fantastic 2025 NFL Season, making it to the NFC Championship and finishing with the best offense in the league largely due to outstanding play from MVP candidate Matthew Stafford and Offensive Player of the Year finalist Puka Nacua.
Still, that doesn't mean things were perfect this season. The main issue pointed out by experts and fans alike was special teams, which was particularly evident in the NFC Championship.
In the regular season, the Rams ranked 26th in the league in regards to special teams, compared to first in offense and 17th in defense.
Naturally, changes are being made in Los Angeles to ensure that the Rams make it to the Super Bowl next year, starting with the firing of special teams coordinator Chase Blackburn.
And it looks like the Rams have already found their replacement.an
Rams head coach Sean McVay has confirmed that Bubba Ventrone of the Cleveland Browns will be the teams new special teams coordinator.
"There is an energy, there is a toughness mentally and physically that he provides," McVay said, per Wyatt Miller of TheRams.com.
"There is a style of play philosophically with how he believes in coaching, what his units have looked like, where he foundationally learned what he knows about this game. There is a lot of guys that he's kind of come from that have had really a ton of success as (special) teams coordinators."
After years as an NFL player, Ventrone truly came into his own as a special teams coordinator. Starting as an assistant special teams coach for the New England patriots, Ventrone would lead special teams for the Indianapolis Colts from 2018-2022 and the Browns from 2023-2025.
Ventrone has brought Kyle Hoke to the Rams from the Browns. This season marked his first in the NFL. Prior to 2025, Hoke coached at multiple different colleges, including San Diego State and Texas A&M.
Needless to say, this seems like a major boost that the Rams will need for next season, and McVay believes Ventrone is the man for the job.
"He's the guy I've had my eye on for a while," McVay continued. "... Very aligned philosophically. He's got a great energy, a great edge. He's a great communicator. You talk to people when you do the vetting and the background and what he does in regards to just being able to uplift and elevate people he's around in situations he's a part of."
