Los Angeles Rams offensive lineman Keagen Trost is ruled out of the preseason opener with a hamstring injury.

Trost started the game at right tackle against the Kansas City Chiefs. The severity of the injury is unclear.

Trost was shown during the telecast on the bench, so that could be seen as a better sign. He may have suffered a hamstring injury, but not being in the locker room could mean that the Rams are being just a bit cautious with the lineman.

Head coach Sean McVay will offer more updates on the injury following the conclusion of the game.

The Rams selected Trost with the 93rd overall pick in the third round of the 2026 NFL Draft. Los Angeles selected Trost with the hope that he would be a key piece of the Rams' line moving forward.

Trost is an older rookie. He’s 25 years old and spent seven seasons playing in college with four different schools: Morgan State, Indiana State, Wake Forest and Missouri.

In his final year at Missouri, he earned Third-team Associated Press All-American and First-team All-SEC while starting all 13 games for the Tigers at right tackle. Trost played one season in Columbia.

As for his upcoming rookie season, Trost is expected to serve primarily as a versatile wing backup who is capable of playing all five line positions. If healthy, Trost has a strong chance to earn regular rotational snaps or compete for expanded duties if depth is tested.

As things stand, that appears to be the case with the uncertainty surrounding Alaric Jackson.

Jackson is currently under review by the NFL for a potential suspension following a June 2026 domestic violence arrest. No official discipline has been announced yet; however, one is expected, which could mean he misses some time at the start of the 2026 season.

Trost would be key for the Rams due to his versatility. He has shown the ability to play throughout the line in college, and it could translate to the NFL.

Trost has accumulated over 2,000 snaps at right tackle, a ton of snaps at left tackle, and some experience at the guard position.

Jackson is the left tackle, and given the importance of the position, the Rams likely wouldn't turn to Trost in Week 1. However, Trost could have an opportunity to work his way up the depth chart as the season progresses.
