Los Angeles Rams running back Kyren Williams had some choice words for his role in the Week 6 loss, seemingly calling out a confusing offensive plan the team has been running.
The Los Angeles Rams are sitting at 2-4 this season, and a big reason for their struggles has been the offense. Quarterback Matthew Stafford has looked off, while the run game continues to have some confusing choices.
One of those choices has to do with Blake Corum seemingly being the lead back in recent weeks. That decision has also led to Kyren Williams sharing some choice words about his usage.
During the Week 6 loss to the Arizona Cardinals, Corum appeared to be featured at times more than Williams. Whether it was the success of the former, it led to the Rams' lead back offering some frustration over his utilization.
Speaking to reporters after the loss, Wiliams was asked about the energy from drive to drive being inconsitent, leading to the Rams back seemingly taking a jab at his usage.
"I couldn't tell you bro, probably because I'm not out there," Williams said.
What is a bit surprising regarding Williams' comments is that he was utilized far more, but was not necessarily the focal point of every snap.
Williams ended up with 42 snaps on offense compared to Corum's 16. On all accounts, Williams was clearly leading the way in terms of time on the field. However, being on the field does not mean that he was used in the run game on all 42 of those snaps.
What was evident is the Rams were going in waves with their run game. Corum would take over drives, as would Williams.
Corum ended his day with 42 yards on nine carries for a 4.7 yards-per-carry average. Williams had 50 yards on 10 carries for a 5.0 yards-per-carry average.
Los Angeles has featured both in a split-carry fashion all season, but it has been Williams who has seen more success when he takes over in a more evident manner.
Take Week 3, for instance. Williams had 15 carries for 88 yards, and six receptions for 70 yards. That can be chalked up to the Denver Broncos' defense having no answer for him, whereas the Cardinals clearly found a way to silence the run game more.
Williams comment may be taken out of context, but he might also be taking umbrage at the fact that Corum was in on more drives.
Whatever the case is, the Rams need to find the right balance for their run game and the right balance for the offense in general.
Sitting at 2-4 might point to the Rams already being in danger of losing out on the NFC West crown. They might also be in danger of missing the playoffs entirely if they can't figure out how to close out games.
One way in which they can do that is find what works for their run game with Kyren Williams.
