The Los Angeles Rams and Matthew Stafford have agreed to a massive one-year, $55 million extension.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter shared the news via X.

The extension is worth up to $60 million with incentives.

Stafford now has two years and up to $105 million remaining on his deal with the Rams. The extension was long overdue, and it's safe to say that these next two seasons could be his last.

The 38-year-old will enter his 18th season in the league and his sixth with the Rams. Stafford is coming off arguably his best season yet, winning his first career MVP. In the process, the Texas native led the league with 4,707 passing yards and 46 passing touchdowns.

On top of his stellar numbers in 2025, Stafford moved to sixth all-time in career-passing yards (64,516) and career completions (5,562), seventh all-time in career passing touchdowns (423) and set the single season-franchise record for passing touchdowns.

Stafford also became the third player in NFL history with multiple touchdown passes in 15 games in a season, joining Hall of Famers Peyton Manning and Dan Marino. On top of that, the reigning MVP set a record for most consecutive touchdowns thrown without an interception in NFL history (28).

There were some question marks surrounding Stafford and the impending extension after the Rams shocked the football world and drafted Ty Simpson 13th overall in last month’s draft. Nonetheless, it appears the pick did not affect the realtionship with the two sides.

Simpson is viewed as the future franchise quarterback for the Rams once Stafford decides to retire, and now there appears to be a clearer timeline for when that transition could eventually take place.

The Rams enter the season as early favorites to win Super Bowl 61, which will be played at SoFi Stadium — their home stadium.

With Stafford still under center, Los Angeles has a legitimate chance to be the last team standing in February 2027.
