The Los Angeles Rams fought a tough battle against the Carolina Panthers in the Wild Card Round of the playoffs, which resulted in Matthew Stafford suffering a finger injury.
During the game, Stafford banged his finger on a Panthers defender while trying to secure a pass. The finger bent backward, and it was later revealed that he sprained the finger. Despite the concern, Stafford has offered an update on the injury.
A quarterback suffering a finger injury is never a good thing, especially if it is on their throwing hand. Stafford did sprain the index finger on his throwing hand, but it appears not to be anything that will keep him from being able to play.
When speaking to the media at practice on Wednesday, Stafford revealed an update on the finger.
Per Stu Jackson of therams.com, Stafford indicated that the finger feels "great." He also stated that he will not wear protection on his hand, nor does he expect the cold weather in Chicago to have any impact on his ability to throw.
This is good news considering Stafford is one of the main reasons why the Rams have been so competitive in 2025 and the playoffs.
One thing the Rams cannot afford is Stafford being off his game. The offense cannot perform the way that it did against the Panthers, as the Bears are similar in nature.
Caleb Williams and company have pulled off multiple fourth-quarter comebacks in the regular season and they did so against the Green Bay Packers in the Wild Card Round.
Williams is similar to Stafford in that they both can lock in and get the ball downfield in tense situations. The Rams cannot allow the Bears to get out in front and expect that they will not show up in the fourth quarter.
This is why Stafford's health is clearly paramount, as is the rest of the roster. The Rams are starting to get healthy, and head coach Sean McVay indicated that multiple injured players may also return.
Three crucial players are offensive lineman Kevin Dotson, cornerback Josh Wallace, and tight end Terrance Ferguson. All three have missed the end of the regular season and the start of the playoffs.
McVay indicated that all three have a good shot at returning for the Divisional Round, but this week of practice will fully determine their availability. The good news is the Rams will not have to worry about the health of Stafford.
