Rams' Matthew Stafford takes home 2025 PFWA MVP for first time cover image

For the first time in his illustrious 17-year NFL career, Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford has been named the PFWA MVP.

The NFL MVP race has been highly contested between two parties: Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford and New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye. However, it looks like Stafford is taking the lead.

The Professional Football Writers of America (PFWA) have announced that Stafford has officially been named the PFWA MVP for the 2025 NFL season.

This should come as a surprise to no one since Stafford has successfully led the Rams to the NFC Championship and led the league with 4,707 passing yards, 46 passing touchdowns, and 236 passing first downs. He has also completed 388 passes out of 597 attempts with only eight interceptions.

Additionally, Stafford was named to his third Pro Bowl as well as first-team All-Pro, 2025 PFWA All-NFL Team, 2025 PFWA All-NFC Team, NFC Offensive Player of the Month in November and December/January, and NFC Offensive Player of the Week for Week 18.

Stafford's other milestones in the 2025 NFL Season include becoming the first quarterback in league history to throw for four or more touchdowns and no interceptions in three consecutive games, and breaking Tom Brady's record for most consecutive touchdown passes without throwing an interception in NFL history since 1978, with 28.

This is yet another feather in the cap for Stafford and what will surely be a Hall of Fame career. Stafford was named NFL Comeback Player of the Year in 2011, and he helped lead the Rams to victory over the Cincinnati Bengals in Super Bowl LVI.

Stafford wasn't the only player on the Rams recognized by the PFWA. Wide receiver Puka Nacua was named to the 2025 PFWA All-NFL Team and the 2025 PFWA All-NFC Team, while linebacker Byron Young was named to the 2025 PFWA All-NFC Team.

Nacua has been one of the most dominant wide receivers in the league this season, leading the NFL with 129 receptions, 80 first downs, and 107.2 yards per game. He also recorded 1,715 receiving yards, 105 rushing yards, and 11 total touchdowns.

Young has been one of the most important defensive players for Los Angeles, recording 82 combined tackles (45 solo), 29 quarterback hits, 12 sacks, 12 tackles for loss, and one forced fumble.

This marks the fourth time a player for the Rams has been named the PFWA MVP. The other winners include quarterback Kurt Warner in 1999 and running back Marshall Faulk in 2000 and 2001.

The Rams have now tied the Baltimore Ravens, Indianapolis Colts, and San Francisco 49ers for the second-most PFWA MVPs since the award was first given out in 1966. The Green Bay Packers hold the record with seven PFWA MVPs.
