Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay revealed a return timeline update on rookie offensive lineman Keagan Trost and wide receiver Mario Williams.
Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay offered some big updates on players who were injured in the team's first preseason matchup.
Rookie offensive lineman and backup right tackle Keagan Trost left the game with a hamstring injury and did not return. Despite the injury, it did not appear to be very serious, as Trost was seen in uniform sitting on the bench.
McVay confirmed on Monday that Trost would be out for a few weeks. Hamstring injuries can definitely be tricky and can oftentimes linger in a way that keeps the player sidelined for longer than just a few weeks.
Trost was set to get more reps during preseason, but he will now have to heal up and get ready for the start of the regular season.
What may make things a bit more complicated is if Trost is expected to step in at a moment's notice. The Rams are still awaiting news on whether or not Alaric Jackson will be suspended due to his latest arrest in the offseason.
Longtime veteran David Quessenberry may be the one to step in at left tackle, but that spot might have also gone to Trost. That will not be the case if the rookie is still healing from his hamstring injury.
Additionally, McVay also echoed the same update for wide receiver Mario Williams. Williams suffered a hamstring injury of his own following some solid returns in the preseason opener and will not be out for a few weeks as week, per the Rams' head coach.
On top of the injuries that occurred during preseason, defensive end Myles Garrett and wide receiver Puka Nacua have also reportedly not returned to practice.
Garrett is currently dealing with soreness in his knee, and the Rams have yet to allow him to return to practice. His absence is precautionary and likely to be the case to prepare him for the long 17-game regular season.
Nacua left joint practice with the Dallas Cowboys, and McVay initially did not know what happened. It was later revealed that he suffered groin soreness, which is known as the psoas.
McVay also echoed the same sentiment regarding Nacua as he did with Garrett, stating that both will be held out as a precautionary measure to ensure they will be healthy once Week 1 rolls around.
The Rams are now set for their second preseason game, as they will face off against the New Orleans Saints.
McVay often does not play starters in preseason matchups, and it is highly unlikely that Garrett and Nacua would have seen playing time, even if they weren't injured.
