Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay revealed that Myles Garrett is dealing with "soreness in his lower half," leading to missed practices.
Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay revealed to the media that Myles Garrett is currently managing "soreness" in his lower half, and he has not practiced due to that ailment.
"Myles has a little soreness in his lower half but nothing to worry about. We're erring on the side of being smart with him," McVay said.
McVay also indicated that Reggie Scott and the training staff are "figuring out how to work best" with Garrett to ensure that he does not suffer anything more significant. The reigning Defensive Player of the Year missed the last three practices due to the injury and will not participate on Monday either.
McVay also confirmed that the expectation for Garrett is that he will be ready to play when the next practice block happens.
Considering it is still early in training camp, a player missing practices is not that uncommon or concerning, especially for a longtime veteran like Garrett. The Rams also have Matthew Stafford on a modified practice plan to ensure he can play through the long 17-game season.
Despite the missed practices, Garrett has impressed his fellow teammates, with players like safeties Quentin Lake and Kam Curl speaking on the defensive end's abilities. Defensive lineman Kobie Turner also admitted there are things that Garrett does that he cannot mimic.
There are a lot of expectations for the Rams in 2026, and a big reason for that is the arrival of Garrett. He was the star on the Cleveland Browns defense, but he has never been surrounded by a team of Los Angeles' caliber.
There are All-Pro and Pro Bowl talents on both sides of the ball, but especially on the defense, with linebacker Byron Young, Lake, and now cornerbacks Trent McDuffie and Jaylen Watson also joining the team.
Garrett's health will be of the utmost importance, as will the health of the entire roster. Injuries can lead to problems snowballing in a significant way, and there is no need to rush anybody back to action at the outset of training camp.
The Rams obviously need Garrett to be on the field to learn the defensive system under Chris Shula, but the veteran is likely to garner more rest days as the weeks go on.
McVay is very intentional on giving his veteran plays the proper rest they need, and as he said, the team is simply operating in a careful way with the defender.
