One of the areas of improvement for the Los Angeles Rams in the offseason is to bolster the offensive line.
Despite the core unit of Alaric Jackson, Steve Avila, Coleman Shelton, Kevin Dotson, and Warren McClendon Jr. playing as a top-five unit, injuries are always a major concern. To combat the depth on the line, the Rams have extended David Quessenberry.
There is also the retirement of longtime veteran Rob Havenstein, who announced his retirement after 11 seasons in the NFL.
Injuries and depth were set to become a major concern for the Rams, who have now made a move to bring Quessenberry back for one more season.
Quessenbery primarily played on special teams in 2025, and also jumped in on the action during the Rams' blowout win against the Arizona Cardinals in Week 14. Despite his usage, he is a solid backup and rotational player who could aid in stepping in should an injury befall one of the starters.
Quessenberry is 35 and was set to become an unrestricted free agent, but will remain with the team through the 2026 season.
Expect the Rams to bolster the line even more in the draft and beyond that. D.J. Humphries is also set to become an unrestricted free agent, but there has not yet been movement on the front office keeping him.
Plenty of mock drafts have placed an offensive lineman as the player the Rams select at No. 13, with the popular pick being Penn State's Vega Ioane.
The starting offensive line for the Rams is one of the best in the league, but it is always a smart decision to bring in more depth for competition and injuries. McClendon came in when Havenstein went out, and he took full advantage of that opportunity and was rated as one of the best tackles in the NFL.
This is not to say that a lineman will go down in 2026, but opportunities to start come around often in the NFL, especially given how rampant injuries can be on the offensive line, with how deeply physical the play is.
Should the Rams bring in Ioane, he may not have to wait long to get his shot at starting, or at least being placed in as a rotational player to begin.
Bolstering the offensive line is also important, as it helps to stick with the plan of helping quarterback Matthew Stafford as much as possible. With his return in 2026, the Rams remain a contender, and keeping him clean and upright is even more paramount than before.
