The Los Angeles Rams have signed former Philadelphia Eagles cornerback Zech McPhearson in their latest roster move.
Most NFL teams are likely to bring in more depth players as the preseason gets underway, and this is the case for the Los Angeles Rams.
Per the team's official site, the Rams have signed former Philadelphia Eagles cornerback Zech McPhearson.
McPhearson most recently played for the Jacksonville Jaguars during the 2024 and 2025 seasons, where he remained on the practice squad.
Previous to the Jaguars, McPhearson was drafted by the Eagles in the fourth round of the 2021 NFL Draft. He played for Philadelphia between the 2021 and 2023 seasons.
During that time, he appeared in 33 games and started one. McPhearson secured two passes defended, one sack, and 30 total tackles. Unfortunately, he suffered a torn Achilles during the 2023 season, which ended his year.
Now, McPhearson joins a cornerback room that includes Trent McDuffie, Jaylen Watson, Emmanuel Forbes Jr., Camp Lampkin, Josh Wallace, and Nyzier Fourqurean.
The Rams also waived defensive back Drey Norwood due to an injury, so McPhearson is likely taking his roster spot.
Los Angeles is also preparing to take on the Dallas Cowboys in their first preseason game, and there could be some injuries that have not been made known, or head coach Sean McVay may simply not want to play his starters.
If that is the case, then adding more depth makes perfect sense.
The Rams are heading into the regular season as the clear Super Bowl favorites, but that does not mean much on paper. The team knows the challenge they face simply in winning games in the long 17-game season.
Nothing is ever guaranteed, and injuries could immediately hamper momentum, even with backups like Forbes and Camp Lampkin; an injury to McDuffie or Watson could spell trouble for the secondary.
McPhearson's addition may simply be to take a full roster into preseason, as teams are allowed 90 players, or 91 if they have a player on the roster who arrived via the NFL's international pathway program. That 90 must be cut down to 53 on Aug 30 by 6 PM.
The Rams are set for a joint practice with the Cowboys on Aug. 11, and this will be the first time that McVay will get to see where his roster currently sits in terms of competition, health, and depth.
