The Los Angeles Rams are reportedly no longer in the trade sweepstakes for A.J. Brown, although they passed on a wide receiver in the first round of the 2026 NFL Draft.
Nate Atkins of The Athletic reported that the Rams are out on Brown.
"That aggressiveness is not expected to target Philadelphia Eagles star wide receiver A.J. Brown despite earlier trade talks, a team source told The Athletic.”
The rumors prior to the draft were swirling on whether or not the Rams would trade for the All-Pro wide receiver. Those talks resurfaced a bit after the team surprisingly passed on a wide receiver, a position everyone thought they'd take in the first round.
With Brown rumored to be on the trading block and with Los Angeles’ need for a wide receiver, there was a possibility the Rams would pull the trigger.
Reports before Atkins’ indicated that the Rams would not make a move for Brown, and that remains the case.
Brown just completed his seventh NFL season and fourth in Philadelphia, though there is growing uncertainty about his long-term future with the team.
It remains unclear whether the Eagles are actively looking to move him or if he is seeking a change of scenery, but speculation around a potential departure continues— driven in part by salary cap considerations and reported frustrations.
The former Ole Miss Rebel is coming off a relatively modest season by his standards. In a struggling Eagles offense in 2025, he finished with 78 receptions for 1,003 yards, seven touchdowns, and averaged 12.9 yards per reception.
There was plenty of connection between the Rams and Brown, especially after general manager Les Snead openly admitted to having talks to bring him in. Oddly enough, those talks may or may not have also included Davante Adams.
The health of the current Rams roster of wide receivers poses a concern, as Adams suffered a lingering hamstring injury that kept him out for three games in the regular season. Puka Nacua also missed one game.
Beyond Adams and Nacua, no other receiver managed to secure over 500 receiving yards, and this includes the solid tight end room the Rams currently have with Terrance Ferguson, Tyler Higbee, and Colby Parkinson.
More is needed, hence why the trade for Brown was definitely warranted. It could have been the price that led the Rams to back out, or also not wanting to include Adams in the deal.
Either way, it appears Los Angeles may be going into 2026 without a clear-cut upgrade at the wide receiver position.
