The Los Angeles Rams have canceled their offseason program early, but here is a look at the top position battles well before training camp starts.

Sean McVay decided to call the Los Angeles Rams' offseason program early, as he announced that minicamp is canceled. This leaves Monday as the final practice for the team before they go on a nearly five-week break before training camp takes place at the end of July.

Training camp is when meaningful football begins to be played, as the pads will come on and the position battles will take place. That said, here are the top battles to consider well ahead of training camp.

4. Swing Tackle/Right Tackle

The Rams have had issues with their offensive line in recent years, and the arrest of Alaric Jackson could lead to more trouble. The team brought back David Quessenberry, who may figure to be against rookie Keagan Trost for that position.

Trost could be the swing option of the future, as he has the versatility to play multiple positions, but Quessenberry has the experience with Los Angeles.

Should Jackson be suspended for multiple games, this may lead to one of the aforementioned players battling it out to take over the right tackle position if a suspension comes in.

3. Right Inside Linebacker

Whether or not the arrival of Myles Garrett changes anything, the inside linebacker position is up for grabs. Nate Landman is a lock, but there is a spot opposite him that will be interesting.

Omar Speights and Shaun Dolac will be the two favorites for the position.

Speights brought in 85 tackles in 2025, also appearing in 16 games. Dolac brought in 25 tackles through 17 games. The former could be the favorite, but expect Chris Shula and the defensive staff to give both the chance to see what they can do through training camp to land that right linebacker spot.

2. WR3 for Matthew Stafford

Matthew Stafford needs pass catcher help, and though Davante Adams and Puka Nacua are on the team, more is needed. Konata Mumpfield and Xavier Smith will get a shot to see what they can do.

The current favorite is Jordan Whittington, but there is also rookie receiver CJ Daniels to consider. That third spot is wide open, and the Rams may have a good problem on their hands if all the mentioned players could lead to bringing out the best in another while vying to secure the WR3 spot.

1. Rams Backup Quarterback

There might not be a more important battle to consider than the backup quarterback position. Sean McVay indicated that the team is not discussing bringing in a veteran option, leaving the options to be rookie Ty Simpson and Steson Bennett IV.

Bennett received plenty of praise from McVay for how he has handled OTAs thus far, as Stafford was shut down to ensure his longevity for the 2026 season.

Simpson is the presumed successor, so he will also need some valuable reps in practice or otherwise. If the Rams consider the 2027 season to be when the rookie passer takes over, he should get plenty of work in training camp and preseason to determine that.

Should he be named backup, that will bode well for the team's future at quarterback.
