The Los Angeles Rams have been urged to consider three other veteran wide receivers to bolster the position group, not named A.J. Brown.
The Los Angeles Rams are still in desperate need to upgrade their wide receiver room.
While the room consists of star duo Puka Nacua and Davante Adams, it’s clear that the position group needs to be upgraded in a big way. One could argue that a lack of a WR3 is the reason the Rams failed to make it to the Super Bowl.
A WR3 is crucial for the Rams, which is why they have been urged to add one of these three veteran wide receivers, not named Philadelphia Eagles All-Pro A.J. Brown.
Kristopher Knox of Bleacher Report named Stefon Diggs, Keenan Allen, or DeAndre Hopkins as options to add this offseason.
"According to NFL Network's Mike Garafolo (h/t Bleacher Report's Zach Bachar), the Rams were "really close" to acquiring A.J. Brown in a trade with the Eagles earlier this offseason.
"If the Rams don't reengage with the Eagles and acquire Brown, they should look to add a veteran like Stefon Diggs, Keenan Allen, or DeAndre Hopkins to their receiver room."
The Rams have also been linked to Diggs as well as Brown.
Los Angeles would have to trade for Brown, but Diggs is a free agent, similar to Keenan Allen and DeAndre Hopkins. All three are nowhere near their primes; however, they could fill a role the Rams so desperately need.
Nacua and Adams are seamless fits with Matthew Stafford, but because of that, they are the focal point for opposing defenses. If the Rams were to add a veteran wide receiver to fill the role of WR3, that could be just what the Rams need to get over the hump.
However, fit matters more than reputation for the Rams, especially for a role like a WR3. The best fit may be Allen. The veteran wide receiver is the cleanest schematic fit for the Rams due to his stellar, elite route running and his ability to thrive as a low-volume, high-efficiency target.
As for Diggs, on paper, he may be the best from the bunch, and he's certainly the youngest. However, he is the trickiest from the bunch as he still is volume-dependent, which makes him less ideal as a pure WR3 in a balanced offense that is the Rams.
The last thing Los Angeles needs is a player who could disrupt what they built last season. Entering the year, they’re already projected to have one of the best offenses in the league, and if they do end up adding a veteran wide receiver, it could raise their ceiling even further.
