Los Angeles Rams star wide receiver Davante Adams is at the center of a polarizing league-wide debate as he enters the 2026 season.

Adams will soon enter his 13th season in the league and his second with the Rams. Although he is coming off a season where he led the league in receiving touchdowns (14) in 14 games, it's clear Adams is not what he used to be in his prime.

The 33-year-old is still productive; however, some deem him as overrated, like The Big Lead’s own Matt De Lima. De Lime ranked five of the most overrated players in the league and named Adams as one of the five.

"Adams led the NFL with 14 touchdowns in 2025, which keeps him filed among the premier receivers. The rest of the line argues for caution.

"He caught just 53 percent of his targets, a career low, and his 789 yards were his fewest since 2015. Much of his value rode on a 7.7 percent touchdown rate, a figure that rarely holds from one season to the next.

"Now 33, Adams plays second fiddle to Puka Nacua and missed time with a lower-body injury. Los Angeles is leaning into a three-TE look that thins his snaps, and the team shopped him before deciding to keep him."

In his prime, Adams was one of the premier red-zone weapons in the league, and is the only player to lead the NFL in receiving touchdowns with three different teams.

Adams is still one of the better receivers in football and a major asset to a contender.

Entering the 2026 season, the Rams are the favorites to win the Super Bowl due to their explosive and efficient offense; Adams is a big reason why their offense is projected to be elite in 2026 once again.

However, he is far from the player he once was.

There is no denying his slight decline. When you look at his advanced numbers like separation consistency, explosive play frequency, yards after catch, and overall efficiency against top coverage, Adams is no longer the overwhelming physical and technical force he once was.

Adams is an aging receiver.

If Adams replicates how he played last season, the Rams will be in a great position to hoist the Lombardi Trophy; however, Los Angeles will be in trouble if he declines in any way, shape, or form due to their lack of wide receiver depth.
