Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay discussed the future of long-time tight end Tyler Higbee.

The Los Angeles Rams have a crucial 2026 offseason ahead of them.

After falling short of a Super Bowl appearance yet again, the Rams will do all they can to be the last team standing this upcoming season.

There are a ton of pressing matters to discuss, including the future of long-time tight end Tyler Higbee.

Higbee just completed his 10th season in the league, all with the Rams. He has been a crucial piece of their success since arriving in L.A., but at 33, it could be the end of his football career.

Rams head coach Sean McVay met with the media on Tuesday and discussed a variety of topics. The subject of Higbee and his future came up, and McVay said the tight end is still deciding his future.

After their season ended at the hands of the Seattle Seahawks, McVay said he would give Higbee and Rob Havenstein (who has since retired) time to mull over their futures.

"I think it's very similar to Matthew... Give them a little bit of time, let them digest, unpack the emotions of where they're at," McVay told reporters Monday. "Whether they continue to play, or whether they don't want to play anymore, they've been legacy players, they've been legacy human beings, more importantly."

As things stand, Higbee's future with the team is uncertain. He is an impending free agent and coming off an injury-plagued 2025 season.

His past two seasons were filled with injuries due to a major knee injury that held him to 13 games in 2024 and 2025. In those contests, Higbee only started in 11 and recorded 33 receptions for 347 yards, five touchdowns and averaged 26.7 yards per game.

The former fourth-round pick in the 2016 NFL Draft took a backseat to Colby Parkinson this past season. On top of that, fellow tight ends like Davis Allen and Terrance Ferguson also handled some of the tight end duties, especially after L.A. moved to 13 personnel.

The Rams could look to move on from Higbee and go younger. He is the oldest from the tight end bunch as things stand; Parkinson is the next oldest at 27.

This could be the end of an era for Higbee and the Rams. If so, what a ride it was. In his career, the former Western Kentucky Big Red has recorded 386 receptions on 568 targets for 3,949 yards, 27 touchdowns and averaged 28.6 yards per game.
