Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay provides injury updates for offensive linemen Justin Dedich and Keagen Trost.
The Los Angeles Rams have been able to stay mostly healthy throughout training camp and the preseason, but there have been a few injuries to take note of, including offensive linemen Justin Dedich and Keagen Trost.
On the topic of Dedich and Trost, head coach Sean McVay provided injury updates for both players during Tuesday's media availability.
"They're doing really good ... they're not quite ready yet. Maybe they'd be ready before week four, but we felt like there was some guys that were, you know, more than capable of really earning the roster spot, and really, you know, Justin got that cast off, so I think it's a smart thing. And then Keagan with his hamstring from the Chiefs. Those guys will be ready to work, you know, and we'll look forward to be able to start their clock when we can, but that won't be for a little bit of time," McVay said.
In this update, McVay indicated that both Dedich and Trost will not be ready for the start of the season, but that they could be ready by Week 4. With players like Dedich and Trost being out of the lineup, it is not ideal that they will miss about the first month of the season, but it is critical that they get healthy to provide reliable depth later in the season.
McVay also talked about the fact that there is no reason to rush Dedich or Trost back, as they are putting in work to get to playing, but each of them still needs some time to recover.
As a result of Dedich and Trost's recovery time, the Rams will need other players to step up, and it seems that they should be in a good spot, as McVay listed a few players he feels confident in to step up.
On that list are David Quessenberry, Beaux Limmer, Dylan McMahon, and Bill Murray, who all have performed pretty solidly throughout camp and the preseason.
At tackle, Quessenberry is the next man up should left tackle Alaric Jackson or right tackle Warren McClendon Jr. go down with an injury, and after McVay's statement, it appears the Rams feel pretty good about that.
On the interior, McVay mentioned Limmer's versatility to play all the spots, which is key because it gives the Rams the ability to keep the starters in their spots and put Limmer where they need to.
Also on the inside, McVay talked about McMahon getting significant reps at center, which is great to keep him experienced, and after McMahon's performance in the preseason, it appears he could be a solid backup center.
To provide even more depth on the interior is Murray, who McVay said came in and earned a roster spot, which is a huge testament to Murray's work ethic and ability to contribute on an NFL offensive line.
All that said, while not having Dedich and Trost for the first few weeks of the regular season is not ideal, McVay and the Rams seem to feel quite confident about their depth with Quessenberry, Limmer, McMahon, and Murray providing great stability up front.
