The Los Angeles Rams may be going all-in, and they could do so in a big way by bringing in six-time All-Pro linebacker Bobby Wagner.
The Los Angeles Rams have a solid roster as is, but general manager Les Snead has never shied away from going after big-time playmakers. In fact, trading for Trent McDuffie and signing Jaylen Watson was just that.
With the secondary improved in a massive way, the Rams could look to bolster their defense even more with the addition of a six-time All-Pro linebacker in Bobby Wagner.
Wagner announced that he would be back for a 15th season, and he oddy remains a free agent. This is after a 2025 season that saw him bring in 162 total tackles, 4.5 sacks, and two interceptions.
The six-time All-Pro is still showing that he can be disruptive, and he would presumably be joining the Rams for his final season(s). Wagner has plenty of familiarity with Los Angeles, as he signed a five-year deal with the team back in 2022.
Unfortunately, the Rams were not in the correct cap situation, and Wagner became a cap casualty the very next season.
As a member of the Rams, Wagner brought in six sacks, 140 total tackles, and two interceptions. His six sacks in 2022 were also a career high.
A lot has happened for the Rams since 2022, especially when it comes to how solid the defense is now. If Snead and the front office wanted to truly make a big swing to ensure the team can go to the Super Bowl, bringing back Wagner would be among one of the biggest moves they could make.
Granted, Wagner could harbor some hurt feelings over being cut, but more players understand that the NFL is a business. Assuming the linebacker would be playing in one of his final years, he could be angling to join a contender.
The Rams were arguably a couple of plays away from heading to the Super Bowl in 2025, and the team was upgraded in a way that keeps them near the top of favorites to make a deep playoff run.
While the Los Angeles defense may not need Wagner, they could offer him an incentive-laden one-year deal to see if he could be the missing piece that can drive the defense forward even more.
There are not many roster holes on the Rams currently, and the linebacker group is among the best, but that does not mean that they couldn't use a strong veteran voice in Wagner.
Jared Verse was honest about the Rams' downfall in the NFC Championship, saying the defense folded under the pressure due to being a young unit. Wagner could come in and be that strong veteran voice to ensure that does not happen again.
It may be a long shot, but adding high-caliber talent at this juncture is what the Rams need to do, especially if Matthew Stafford is done after 2026.
