A look at the Los Angeles Rams quarterback room ahead of 2026 training camp.
The Los Angeles Rams are a little over a month away from the start of training camp, which kicks off on July 27 at Loyola Marymount University.
They’ve put themselves in a great position to be the last team standing this season, but first, it starts in the summer. The Rams have a loaded roster entering this season, and many of their positions don't need to be hashed out, especially at quarterback.
Matthew Stafford is set to enter his 18th season at the helm and his sixth with the franchise. His spot is as secure as it can be. However, as far as it goes for the others in that room, there are still a ton of questions and uncertainty.
The quarterback room after Stafford is certainly a focal point for the Rams.
Rams Quarterbacks on the Roster
Matthew Stafford
The 38-year-old is coming off winning MVP and is arguably the best quarterback coming into the season. Stafford has a ton left in the tank, and as long as he's upright and healthy, the Rams have a great shot to win it all. The veteran quarterback is the face of the franchise; the only question is: for how much longer?
Ty Simpson
And that’s where the Rams' 13th overall pick in this year’s draft comes in. Simpson is projected to be the backup to his eventual successor; however, there are still some questions surrounding the 23-year-old.
Can he beat out Stetson Bennett IV for the backup spot? Will the Rams regret taking Simpson as their future potential franchise quarterback? These are all questions that many are wondering, especially considering the expectations set upon him.
However, the Rams are confident in their selection of Simpson. Still, only time will tell how it all pans out for the Tennessee native.
Stetson Bennett IV
Bennett is 28 years old and will soon embark on his fifth season in the league. While that is the case, he has yet to establish himself as a QB2 in the Rams system. Still, the Rams view him as a valuable piece mostly due to his familiarity with Sean McVay’s playbook.
That familiarity could be what puts him over the top when it comes to the QB2 battle. With Jimmy Garoppolo no longer with the team, Bennett could finally break through. As for his long-term future with the Rams, that remains unclear.
While Bennett is expected to play an important role this season, questions linger about what his future with the organization could look like beyond the immediate future.
Matthew Caldwell
The former college journeyman found his way in Los Angeles after he signed as an undrafted free agent in late April. Caldwell is on a three-year contract with the Rams and could have the chance to make a name for himself with the organization.
Caldwell played in five seasons at the collegiate level with Jacksonville State, Gardner-Webb, Troy, and played for the Texas Longhorns in 2025.
The 23-year-old has played in 17 games and recorded 149 completions for a completion percentage of 63.7 percent, 1,693 passing yards and 14 touchdowns along with eight interceptions.
A solid training camp could earn him a spot on the practice squad with the Rams.
Biggest Rams QB Questions
One of the biggest questions regarding the Rams' passers is how long Stafford plans to play. He indicated that he may play well past 2027, but did not directly state that. If that is the case, it may make things a bit awkward regarding Simpson sitting on the bench.
Another question is where Simpson is at in his development. Granted, training camp has not yet started. He must show gains on the field to indicate that Los Angeles invested in the right player. Any sort of step back may lead to some huge issues if Stafford retires after 2026.
