Los Angeles Rams rookie quarterback Ty Simpson is more than happy to be learning from Matthew Stafford.

Los Angeles Rams rookie quarterback Ty Simpson is learning and absorbing all he can from the reigning MVP and veteran Matthew Stafford.

Simpson is entering his rookie season, projected to be the backup to Stafford and eventually his successor. The timeline of that is still unclear; however, Simpson is expected to be ready for that moment when it arrives.

He is prepared to be as ready as he can be, as he’s been learning as much as he could from Stafford in the short amount of time he’s been with the team. When speaking to reporters, Simpson said that he’s appreciated Stafford for taking him under his wing and being a big brother to him.

"I hope I’m not annoying him," Simpson said, "but I really appreciate the big brother kind of role he’s playing in my development."

Stafford is set to enter his 18th season in the league and his sixth with the Rams. The 38-year-old is closer to the end of his career than the beginning.

With that in mind, it makes sense for the Texas native to share as much knowledge and experience as possible.

Part of Stafford’s job is to prepare the young quarterback for what he can and will endure for the rest of his career.

All eyes are on Stafford and the Rams as they get set to approach this highly anticipated season; however, the same can be said for Simpson. The Rams drafted Simpson with the No. 13 overall pick in this year’s draft.

Many expected the Rams to use the pick on a player who could contribute immediately. Instead, the team opted for more of a patient and calculated approach, selecting a player they believe could be their franchise quarterback of the future in Simpson.

The move certainly reflects a long-term vision for the franchise rather than a short-term one. Still, the Rams are fortunate enough to make win-now moves, and they have, with the additions of Trent McDuffie and Myles Garrett this offseason.

While many aren’t satisfied with the Simpson pick in a vacuum, the Rams still have a great shot at coming away with the Lombardi Trophy in the 2026 season.

Simpson is not expected to play a big role (or any role for that matter); however, in due time, the 23-year-old may be looked upon to guide the franchise the best he possibly could.

The former Alabama quarterback is expected to play extensively in the preseason, as the Rams have been known for sitting their starters and key players during that time.
