Jesse Minter has officially announced Anthony Weaver as the Baltimore Ravens defensive coordinator.

Though it was well-known that Anthony Weaver would be the Baltimore Ravens new defensive coordinator, the organization had not formally announced that decision.

That has now come to pass as Jesse Minter and the Ravens have announced that Weaver's return to Baltimore is official.

Weaver returns to the Ravens after spending the past two seasons as the defensive coordinator for the Miami Dolphins.

Previous to his stint with the Dolphins, Weaver served as a coach on John Harbaugh's staff. Initially, he was brought over as a defensive line coach and run game coordinator in 2021.

Following the 2021 season, Weaver was promoted to assistant head coach and defensive line coach, where he served during the 2022 and 2023 seasons.

Weaver would be hired by the Dolphins in 2024.

With the Ravens firing Harbaugh, the team looked to former Los Angeles Chargers defensive coordinator Jesse Minter. Minter began to immediately build out his coaching staff, adding some heavy hitters.

Former Chicago Bears offensive coordinator Declan Doyle was hired, as was Minter. With Minter officially being named defensive coordinator, Minter released a statement on the hire.

"A highly-regarded defensive mind, Anthony Weaver has a proven track record of success and is the definition of what it means to be a Raven," Minter stated. "He elevates players with his football IQ, tactical knowledge and natural teaching ability — all attributes that make him one of the game's most respected coaches."

Minter already announced previously that he will be calling plays on defense, but now he has one of the most well-respected defensive minds in the NFL as his second in command.

The Ravens were known for decades as a defense-first team, especially when the likes of Ray Lewis and Terrell Suggs were on the team. While their identity may not completely shift to that under Minter, they are certainly packed with some huge talent player-wise and coach-wise as well.

Baltimore has needed a strong balance on both offense and defense, and the hope for the team is that Doyle and Weaver can bring that while working under Minter.

The new era of Ravens football is nearly here, and with the coaching staff nearly being completed, Minter and general manager Eric DeCosta will look to free agency to start bolstering the team's roster.
