The Baltimore Ravens have found their new defensive coordinator in former Miami Dolphins coach Anthony Weaver.

The Baltimore Ravens have been building out the staff under new head coach Jesse Minter, and that has now led to the acquisition of Anthony Weaver.

Weaver is set to become the defensive coordinator on the Ravens, bringing the coach back to Baltimore.

Tom Pelissero reported on the hire, stating:

"Reunion: The Ravens plan to hire Anthony Weaver as their defensive coordinator, sources say.

"Weaver, 45, played in Baltimore for four seasons, coached there for three and interviewed for their head coaching job. Now he’ll team up with Jesse Minter."

Weaver spent the last two seasons as the defensive coordinator for the Miami Dolphins, and he was once again up for a head coach job during this hiring cycle. Unfortunately, he did not receive a head coach opportunity, and is now joining the Minter's staff.

Weaver had previously interviewed for the head coach position with the Ravens, with the team moving to hire Minter instead. Despite Weaver potentially being upset about not being chosen to lead Baltimore, he switches gears to join the coaching staff anyway.

Weaver has plenty of experience with the Ravens, as he previously played for the team from 2002 to 2005 as a defensive end. He also served as a coach from 2021 to 2023.

Initially, Weaver was hired to coach alongside John Harbaugh as the defensive line coach during the 2021 season. He was then promoted to assistant head coach and defensive line coach from 2022 to 2023.

Weaver would leave the Ravens to join the Dolphins staff in 2024, where he remained through 2025.

It is only a matter of time until Weaver lands a head coach job, but he will now be instrumental in aiding Minter on the defensive side of the ball.

Minter revealed that his plan is to call plays on defense for the Ravens, even as head coach. This does make the addition of Weaver even more significant.

Weaver will now be the presumed right-hand man for Minter, especially on the defensive side of the ball.

The Dolphins did not have a hugely successful defensive unit in 2025, but that was due to a multitude of injuries to their secondary. The lack of pass rush was also evident, but defensively, the team turned a corner towards the end of the season.

A huge part of the Dolphins' defense being formidable through injuries is due to Weaver, who will now get to coach All-Pro safety Kyle Hamilton, Pro Bowl linebacker Roquan Smith, and more.
