The Baltimore Ravens surprised the NFL world with their swift firing of head coach John Harbaugh after 18 years with the team.
Now that the organization has said thank you and paid tribute to their longtime leader, the hunt begins for someone to fill his position.
So far, the Ravens organization have confirmed that one interview has taken place with current Denver Broncos defensive coordinator Vance Joseph.
A former NFL defensive back, Joseph began his coaching career in the NCAA with Colorado and Bowling Green before moving to the NFL in 2005 as the assistant defensive backs coach for the San Francisco 49ers.
From 2006 to 2015, Joseph would serve as the defensive backs coach for multiple organizations, including the 49ers, the Houston Texans, and the Cincinnati Bengals before becoming the defensive coordinator for the Miami Dolphins in 2016.
In 2017, Joseph was named the head coach for the Broncos, making him the second African-American head coach in NFL history. However, he would be fired from the team after two losing seasons in a row.
Joseph returned to his defensive coordinator role in 2019, this time for the Arizona Cardinals. In 2023, Joseph was re-hired by the Broncos as a defensive coordinator where he would lead one of the top defenses in the league in 2024 and 2025.
While no other interviews have been confirmed by the Ravens organization, there have been multiple reports of other exciting candidates by NFL insiders.
According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, Baltimore has requested an interview with 49ers defensive coordinator Robert Saleh.
Prior to his time as defensive coordinator for San Francisco, Saleh was the head coach for the New York Jets from 2021 to 2024 before being unceremoniously fired five games in the 2024 NFL season.
In New York, Saleh had a 20-36 record. Despite this, the Jets consistently ranked as one of the top defensive teams in the NFL.
Ian Rapoport of NFL Network has reported that Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Matt Nagy is also set to be interviewed by the Ravens.
Nagy has won two Super Bowls with the Chiefs and also served as head coach of the Chicago Bears for four seasons. During that time, he was named AP NFL Coach of the Year (2018) and led the Bears to a 34-33 record.
According to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network, another candidate is Minnesota Vikings defensive coordinator Brian Flores.
Flores also has experience as a head coach, leading the Dolphins from 2019 to 2021, boasting a 24-25 record. Prior to that, Flores spent a decade with the New England Patriots, winning four Super Bowls.
Pelissero has also reported that the Ravens have requested an interview with Dolphins defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver.
While he has been with the Dolphins for the past two seasons, Weaver has experience with Baltimore as both a player and a coach, making him a prime candidate.
Another major name with ties to Baltimore is Seattle Seahawks offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak, who is currently working under former Ravens defensive coordinator Mike McDonald. On top of that, his father, Gary Kubiak, was the offensive coordinator for the Ravens in 2014.
Kubiak is widely considered to be responsible for the dynamic Seahawks offense that saw quarterback Sam Darnold and wide receiver Jaxon Smith- Njigba give some of the best performances of their respective careers.
Additionally, Schefter has reported that Broncos offensive pass game coordinator and quarterback coach Davis Webb is interviewing for the position.
While he has less experience than the other candidates, Webb is considered to be a rising star in the coaching world with multiple organizations interested in him.
