Former Ravens OC Todd Monken lands HC job with Browns cover image

Former Baltimore Ravens head coach Todd Monken is now the head coach of the Cleveland Browns.

It was only a matter of time until Todd Monken landed another head coaching job, and that has finally happened. The former Baltimore Ravens offensive coordinator is now the head coach of the Cleveland Browns.

Monken had been a favorite candidate for head coaching jobs in the past and was considered the second favorite behind Matt LaFleur for the Green Bay Packers in 2019.

Monken has head coaching experience at the collegiate level, as he ran the program with Southern Miss from 2013 to 2015. He posted an overall record of 13-25, including a final season of 9-5.

Despite not serving as a head coach in the NFL just yet, he remains one of the most well-respected coaches in the league.

Monken was also expected to join the New York Giants under John Harbaugh as offensive coordinator, but that was assuming he did not land a head coaching job anywhere.

That was clearly the case, and now Monken will lead the Ravens' divisional rivals. What will be interesting to see is if he will be there to lead Shedeur Sanders as a starter in 2026.

The Browns have many questions on offense, including who will be under center, but they now have an offensive-minded coach who was helping to guide Lamar Jackson.

Losing Monken was expected due to the Ravens' firing Harbaugh, but losing the coach to a divisional rival is tough. The former offensive coordinator knows Baltimore well, and will have an inside track when game planning for them.

The Browns and Ravens will meet with one another twice a year, and Monken knows the organization intimately.

Baltimore does have some good news in that they hired Jesse Minter, a young and dynamic mind who should be in charge of guiding the team to re-establish its very tough defensive identity.

Still, it will be interesting to see how Monken and Minter game plan for one another when that day comes in 2026.

For now, the Ravens lose one of their top coaches to a divisional rival, and everyone will have to wait and see how Monken performs as a head coach in the NFL.
