The Baltimore Ravens have selected USC wide receiver Ja'Kobi Lane with the 80th overall pick of the 2026 NFL Draft.
The Ravens desperately needed help at the wide receiver position, and they got that with Lane.
Lane was the other stellar receiver along with Makai Lemon last season. The 21-year-old brings another element to the Ravens' wide receiver room, and one that they have been missing.
Lane’s time at USC was solid. He recorded 99 receptions for 1,363 receiving yards, 18 touchdowns, and averaged 13.8 yards per reception. In 2025, Lane recorded career highs across the board with 49 receptions, 745 receiving yards, and averaged 12.2 yards per reception.
His career high in touchdowns came in 2024 with 12, and was named Las Vegas Bowl MVP. This past season, Lane was an honorable mention All-Big Ten Conference.
Lane provides size, catch radius, and red-zone presence alongside Pro Bowler Zay Flowers. It’s a perfect compliment alongside Flowers. While the former first-round pick is a separator – quick, explosive, and dangerous after the catch. Lane is the counter.
The Arizona native has a bigger frame, has boundary receiver traits, and wins in contested situations, as he showed throughout his time in Southern California.
The Ravens also gave superstar quarterback Lamar Jackson a true outside target. For Jackson and the offense, having a receiver who could win on the outside, especially on broken plays, is a massive win. Lane’s size and ability to track the ball make him a natural target when played extensively, which is a staple of Baltimore’s offense.
Another positive from selecting Lane is his immediate red-zone impact. At 6-foot-4, Lane could be a great target for Jackson. He could create matchup problems against smaller corners, open up fade and back shoulder corners, and take pressure off the undermanned tight end room.
While there is a lot to be positive about, some of the concerns regarding Lane is that he may not be a polished, high-volume route runner right away. Lane has to work on his route tree expansion and consistency against press coverage.
Early on, we could expect more of a situational role for Lane in the Ravens offense. Prior to the draft, Lane was projected to eventually be a starter in the league. That could very well be the case with the Ravens as soon as his upcoming season.
