Two of the top coaches in the league share their thoughts on the Baltimore Ravens' newest head coach, Jesse Minter.
The Baltimore Ravens will have a new head coach for the first time in 18 seasons. Jesse Minter will get his first gig as an NFL head coach, and it will be with one of the more prominent NFL franchises of this century.
The Ravens realized that a change was necessary after inconsistent and lackluster performances in 2025, leading to a missed playoff berth.
Now enter Minter.
The 42-year-old will bring a fresh look to the team, as well as a different leadership style compared to what they've become accustomed to.
Although Minter has no head coaching experience, his peers have nothing but tremendous things to say. Seattle Seahawks head coach and Super Bowl champion Mike Macdonald said he expects Minter to do great things.
“I expect Jesse to do great things," Macdonald said. "We bounce football ideas off each other every once in a while. He’s given me more tips than I’ve probably given him.”
Former Ravens head coach John Harbaugh echoed what Macdonald said and also praised Minter's work ethic.
"I've known Jesse since he was a kid, I just know he's always had a passion for football and a great way about him, even back then," Harbaugh said.
"When he first came to Baltimore, he wasn't inexperienced, he had been a defensive coordinator in college by that point. He's a coach's kid, Rick Minter is one of the smartest coaches that I've ever been around, had the chance to work with and for Rick for three years, I still talk to him all the time, and Jesse's part of that. It's in his DNA, it's in his blood," he continued.
"That's an advantage...he grew up with that, he was always ahead that way, I would say, but he's his own man. He worked hard, he was his own man in Baltimore when he was young, when he worked his way up to the safeties coach, he was his own man, got the opportunity to be a coordinator, was his own man, and then was with Jim those years, did what he did, and now he gets his opportunity to be a head coach in a great place. I have nothing but love and respect for him. I think he's ready."
Before being hired as the head coach of the Ravens, Minter spent four seasons with the team from 2017-20, serving as a defensive assistant, assistant defensive backs coach and defensive backs coach.
The first-year head coach is ready to prove many wrong and his peers right.
