Randy Moss calls for new Ravens head coach to correct major John Harbaugh issue cover image

The Baltimore Ravens need a new head coach and Randy Moss believes this new person must correct a major John Harbaugh issue.

The NFL world was initially shocked to learn that the Baltimore Ravens fired longtime head coach John Harbaugh. However, breaking down the reality of the situation that led to his firing made more sense.

Harbaugh was with the Ravens for 18 seasons. He led the team to 12 playoff berths, and one Super Bowl win. Despite the success, Harbaugh failed to make the big show, even with having a two-time MVP in Lamar Jackson.

Jackson could have arguably been a three-time MVP in 2024, but the honor was given to Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen. Regardless, the Ravens' signal caller remains one of the best quarterbacks in the league.

The issue for Jackson is that his playoff performances have not been the same as his regular season performances. Through eight playoff games, he has 1,753 yards, 10 touchdowns, seven interceptions, and an 84.6 passer rating.

Simply put, the Ravens have not made the big show with Harbaugh and Jackson in the same building. That is the major reason the organization felt they needed to move on.

Former NFL wide receiver and NFL analyst Randy Moss pointed to the same thing when speaking about the potential next head coach. He pointed to this new person needing to correct the disconnect that Harbaugh had with Jackson in the postseason.

"Coach Harbaugh is a great coach. But when you're talking about Lamar Jackson and the search for this next head coach. The next head coach that comes into Baltimore needs to be able to bring the best out of Lamar Jackson. 'What are you saying, he didn't bring the best —' No, I'm not saying that. Coach Harbaugh brought the best out of Lamar Jackson in the regular season ... this next coach is to bring the best out of Lamar in the postseason," Moss said.

Moss indicated that the struggles Jackson has had in the playoffs need to be corrected, which is a fair point. With the stats provided above, and the Ravens constantly being knocked out of the playoffs, something needs to change.

The Ravens and Harbaugh likely needed a split due to this exact reason. Harbaugh may not have been able to get to Jackson in the manner he did before.

Jackson could have been in the same boat. Multiple Ravens players delivered their admiration for Harbaugh after he was fired, but a fresh start was likely needed.

The same occurred with Andy Reid when he was fired by the Philadelphia Eagles and joined the Kansas City Chiefs, leading to much more success.

Baltimore needs a head coach that can elevate Jackson and the entire team past the just the playoffs, because this roster has been far too talented to fall short every season.
