The Baltimore Ravens have made a huge change to address injury issues by hiring world-renowned performance coach, Dr. Nic Gill.

The Baltimore Ravens experienced a down year in 2025, as the team suffered multiple injuries that kept the team from reaching the postseason, and subsequently led to the firing of coaching legend John Harbaugh.

To combat the injury issues, the Ravens have made a big step by hiring a world-renowned performance and health coach, Dr. Nic Gill.

Gill comes over from the world of rugby, where he served for 18 years as the health and performance coach for the  New Zealand All Blacks rugby team. The team won the rugby World Cup in 2011 and 2015, and has maintained an .800 winning percentage.

Simply put, Gill comes over as a premier voice in the performance and health space, and has been hired as the new vice president of health and performance, a role created by the Ravens for the doctor.

According to the Ravens site, Gill will "lead integrated efforts across the strength and conditioning, medical, nutrition, and sports science teams."

General manager Eric DeCosta also commented on the hiring.

"As an expert in high performance, Gilly's ability to lead an integrated and collaborative staff and to develop strong lasting relationships with players makes him an ideal fit for this newly-created role," General Manager Eric DeCosta stated. "The health and performance of our players is paramount, and we are confident that Nic Gill positions us to be an industry standard organization moving forward."

Gill also commented on his excitement to join the Ravens, stating that it "felt right."

"I've been incredibly fortunate in my career, and I don't take a move like this lightly," Dr. Gill stated. "The Ravens felt right, straight away – the people, the standards and the way they care about their players. I'm excited to get to work, build real relationships and help guys stay healthy, available and playing their best football."

Clearly, Baltimore saw the injury to Lamar Jackson, among many others, as a major red flag. The health of players is paramount, but especially for a team that relies on players like Jackson to stay on the field and lead the team.

The Ravens also have a lot of work to do in terms of bolstering their depth, as the second and third tier players also need to step up in case injuries occur again. With Gill in the building, the hope for the team is to greatly mitigate ailments that will cause any player to miss multiple games.
