Ravens announce Jesse Minter as fourth coach in franchise history cover image

The Baltimore Ravens have found their new head coach, as the team has announced former Los Angeles Chargers defensive coordinator Jesse Minter as the new leader.

After an exhaustive search that included 16 interviews, the Baltimore Ravens have found their new head coach in former Los Angeles Chargers defensive coordinator Jesse Minter.

Minter spent the 2024 and 2025 seasons on Jim Harbaugh's staff and is now set to become a first-time NFL head coach.

Minter has plenty of experience with the Ravens culture and the building, as he was once an assistant to John Harbaugh.

During the 2017 season, Minter served as a defensive assistant on Harbaugh's staff. From there, he would be promoted to assistant defensive backs coach in 2019. He would then land the defensive backs coach promotion in 2020.

Minter would return to the collegiate level in 2021 as the defensive coordinator for Vanderbilt, eventually joining Michigan, and finally the Chargers.

Minter released a statement on joining the Ravens organization.

"I am truly honored to serve as the head coach of the Baltimore Ravens," Minter stated. "This is an organization whose values, culture and tradition of excellence reflect everything I believe about the game of football and how it should be played."

Ravens general manager Eric DeCosta also released a statement, stating:

"Jesse is a strong leader who possesses a brilliant football mind and a spirit that will resonate with our players and fanbase alike," General Manager Eric DeCosta stated. "Jesse comes from a football family, with success at every level of the sport, and we are confident that he is the right coach to lead the Ravens forward."

Minter emerged as one of the most prominent potential head coaches in this hiring cycle, and he interviewed with practically every team opening. As a young and dynamic mind, it was only a matter of time until he was given a chance to lead his own team.

Considering the Ravens have been known for their defense for decades, it makes perfect sense that Minter was chosen to lead the team into a new era. He helped to shape and mold the Chargers' offense into one of the best in the league.

Minter's first task will be to hire the right kind of offensive coordinator to pair with him in elevating Lamar Jackson, as well as the team as a whole.

Minter is likely to be introduced sometime early next week, but the Ravens have their new man to lead the team into a new era.
