Baltimore Ravens cornerback Marlon Humphrey has been pulled after suffering a calf injury.
UPDATE:
Marlon Humphrey is now ruled out.
Baltimore Ravens cornerback Marlon Humphrey has suffered a calf injury, and his return to the game against the Tennessee Titans is now questionable.
Humphrey was injured late in the third quarter, but it was not known at the time what had occurred. Chidobe Awuzie took over, pointing to something that had happened to the veteran.
The Ravens officially posted that Humphrey is questionable with a calf.
Losing a strong secondary player in Humphrey will certainly be tough to deal with, as Baltimore has been struggling throughout this season in stopping passers with over-the-middle throws.
That was evident in the Titans' first offensive drive, as they marched downfield to match the Ravens' initial touchdown.
Titan quarterback Cam Ward has been able to get the ball out quickly and has spread it around in a way that the Ravens' defense has struggled to stop their drives. The pass rush has also not been as sharp, leading to some strong runs.
Humphrey has been fantastic through three games thus far, but he has also appeared on the injury report previously with a hamstring ailment. Now, he has suffered a calf injury that has knocked him out of the Titans matchup.
Awuzie is a strong defender, and Ravens head coach Jesse Minter spoke about the need to get him more involved. Now, he can do just that with Humphrey dealing with his injury.
Questionable to return also does not mean that Humphrey cannot make it back in the game, but the Ravens may also want to be careful with the veteran to ensure he does not suffer further damage.
Baltimore has the depth needed to ensure Humphrey can get some rest, as Awuzie has now taken over for the veteran. Rookie Chandler Rivers might also get a bit more involved.
At the time of this writing, the Ravens have been able to silence the Titans' recent drives. The score sits at 14-7, and Baltimore just got a massive fourth-down stop.
Defensive tackle Nnamdi Madubuike was able to get in the backfield to stop the rush from Tony Pollard, giving the Ravens the ball back deep in their own territory.
If Humphrey is able to get back into the game, the team will announce it. The cornerback remains out, and there has been no indication that he will play further against the Titans.
