The search for the Baltimore Ravens' new head coach continues, and it seems that the organization may be considering a familiar face.
On January 14, the Ravens announced that they completed an interview with Cleveland Browns defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz.
Schwartz has been the defensive coordinator for the Browns since 2023, leading the team to be one of the best defenses in the NFL.
Schwartz began his NFL coaching career as a personnel scout for the Browns in 1993 before becoming the outside linebacker for the Ravens from 1996 to 1998. He would go on to take multiple roles with the Tennessee Titans before becoming the head coach for the Detroit Lions in 2009.
After the Lions infamous 0-16 season, Schwartz rebuilt the team to eventually finish with a 10-6 record in 2011, marking their first playoff appearance in over a decade. Unfortunately, his time with Detroit would come to an end in 2013 with an overall 29-51 record.
Given his defensive expertise, history with the Ravens, and head coaching experience, Schwartz would make a great head coach for Baltimore.
As one of the most desired head coaching positions in the league, the Ravens organization seems to have a plethora of candidates for the job.
The Ravens have already conducted interviews with Minnesota Vikings defensive coordinator Brian Flores, former Washington Commanders offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury, Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Matt Nagy, former Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski, Seattle Seahawks offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak, Denver Broncos pass game coordinator Davis Webb, Broncos defensive coordinator Vance Joseph, and Miami Dolphins defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver.
Additionally, the Ravens organization has reportedly scheduled interviews with former Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel, Los Angeles Chargers defensive coordinator Jesse Minter, Los Angeles Rams pass game coordinator Nate Scheelhaase, Rams defensive coordinator Chris Shula, Buffalo Bills offensive coordinator Joe Brady, and San Francisco 49ers defensive coordinator Robert Saleh.
No matter who Baltimore eventually chooses to be their head coach, they will have massive shoes to fill. John Harbaugh held the position for 18 years, taking the Ravens to the playoffs 12 times and winning Super Bowl XLVII.
Harbaugh holds the record for most road playoff wins (eight) in NFL history and was named AP NFL Head Coach of the Year in 2019. Overall, he finished his time with the Ravens with a 193-124 overall record. Needless to say, Harbaugh is a future hall of famer.
