The Baltimore Ravens have a chance to trade for All-Pro defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence after he requested a trade from the New York Giants.
The Baltimore Ravens have a ton on their plate as the 2026 season slowly approaches.
They've lost a lot more than they've gained this offseason, losing 11 players via free agency. It's a new chapter for the Ravens, who have new players and a new head coach at the helm in Jesse Minter. Still, they are expected to compete in what is a tough AFC North division.
The Ravens have ways to go if they want to bolster their roster, and one way they could do that is by possibly trading for All-Pro defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence.
According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, Lawrence requested a trade from the New York Giants and will not be participating in the team’s off-season workout program that opens on Tuesday.
So far, there have been four teams that have reached out about Lawrence, including the Green Bay Packers, Chicago Bears, Jacksonville Jaguars, and the Buffalo Bills.
Lawrence and the Giants have been through two offseason attempts to negotiate a contract. However, nothing has materialized on either end. Because of that, Lawrence decided to request a trade from the team he's spent his entire career with.
The Giants drafted Lawrence in the first round of the 2019 NFL Draft with the No. 19 overall pick. In his stellar seven-year career, the former Clemson Tiger has been named a two-time Second-team All-Pro and three-time Pro Bowler.
Lawrence could do wonders for the Ravens' defensive line and take them to another level alongside Trey Hendrickson.
The 28-year-old is one of the more premier nose tackles in the league due to his rare blend of elite size, standing at 6-foot-4 and 340 pounds, his immense strength and amazing agility.
A potential addition of Lawrence would be an upgrade at that interior defensive line position. The uncertainty of Nnamdi Madubuike and his football career should make the Ravens uber aggressive in a purisit of another interior defensive lineman.
Whether Madubuike comes back or not, Lawrence would instantly boost the run defense, improve the pass rush up the middle, and help take pressure off eoff edge defenders like Hendrickson.
While Lawrence is still in his 20s and has a ton of experience, his 2025 season was a down year compared to his past years. The Ravens should only pursue Lawrence if they are confident he can perform at the elite level he has demonstrated for much of his career.
Baltimore could acquire the All-Pro nose tackle without overpaying in draft capital or hamstringing future cap flexibility. It's all a matter of whether they want to.
