Baltimore Ravens potential starting center Danny Pinter had to be carted off the field during joint practice with the Minnesota Vikings.
The Baltimore Ravens are currently engaged in one of two joint practices with the Minnesota Vikings ahead of their preseason matchup on Saturday. While the practice itself remains competitive, the Ravens have been hit with a concerning injury.
Per a report from Tyler Forness, a cart has been called out for center Danny Pinter.
There are no additional details regarding the injury that Pinter suffered or whether he even suffered anything significant. However, a player being carted off the field is never a good sign.
The Ravens have had some good luck in terms of more serious-looking injuries, as cornerback Nate Wiggins also had to be carted off the field due to a leg injury. It was later reported that Wiggins did not suffer any sort of structural damage, and he was only out for a few days of practice.
That could be the case for Pinter, and Ravens head coach Jesse Minter is likely to offer more updates later during his media availability.
Pinter has been in the middle of the current competition to find a starting center. He, along with Jovaughn Gwyn, has been the main competitor on that front, dating back to OTAs and minicamp.
The center competition has pushed on into training camp, with Gwyn and Pinter taking the brunt of snaps as starter during the team's first preseason game.
Gwyn impressed Minter heavily, as the Baltimore head coach indicated that he would "continue getting opportunities." Oddly enough, former Cleveland Browns center Ethan Pocic was signed but has not garnered the same opportunity.
Minter also stated that the starting center would not be found quickly, and the team would allow the competition to go well into preseason.
Should Pinter have suffered something significant, this would effectively put Gwyn and Pocic in a much better place. The Ravens might also involve Corey Bullock a bit more out of necessity.
The Ravens will now presumably run some tests to determine what occurred with Pinter and if his injury is serious enough that he may miss multiple months or more. The hope for the team would be this situation echoes that of Wiggins, and the potential starting center only misses a week or so.
Pinter might also only be out through to the regular season, if his injury becomes something that is a best-case scenario type of situation.
