As has been the case for multiple seasons, the Baltimore Ravens and Los Angeles Chargers may be sharing more than just players.
Current Ravens defensive coordinator Zach Orr is continuing to get looks with other teams. He garnered interest from the Dallas Cowboys, and now he has been requested to interview for the vacant spot with the Chargers.
Adam Schefter revealed the news on X, stating:
"Chargers have requested Ravens defensive coordinator Zach Orr to interview for their vacant DC job, per source. Orr spent the past two seasons in charge of Baltimore’s defense and previously worked alongside former Chargers DC Jesse Minter.
"Now that the Ravens have hired Minter as their head coach, LA is looking to Baltimore for its potential next DC."
The Chargers have lost their defensive coordinator in Jesse Minter, who was named the new head coach of the Ravens. While Minter may want to keep some staff around, Orr might be on his way out to another team.
The usual case for most new head coaches is that they want to bring in their own staff, and that staff is oftentimes comprised of assistants they worked with in their previous team.
Now, the Chargers can block coaches from lateral moves if they see fit, but they might also give Minter a chance to interview several on the team who are under Jim Harbaugh. It really depends on Minter's idea for his new staff.
Minter's arrival in Baltimore also does not mean that he won't want to keep some current staffers. Considering his defensive mind, he may be calling plays, which would likely prompt Orr to find a job where he is the main playcaller on defense.
Orr joined the Ravens organization in 2017 as a defensive analyst and worked his way up to inside linebacker coach from 2022 to 2023, after a one-year stint with the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2021.
Orr was then promoted to defensive coordinator in 2024, where he remained through the 2025 season.
In 2024, the Ravens' defense was considered a top 10 unit, only giving up 21.2 points per game and 324.2 yards per game.
The injury bug hit the Ravens hard in 2025, as Ardarius Washington, Marlon Humphrey, Kyle Hamilton, and Nnamdi Madubuike were all hit with some sort of injury.
Madubuike remains out due to his neck injury, and he may not return, though that has not been corroborated.
Simply put, Orr had some adversity to deal with, and the Ravens' defense dropped to 18th in the league with 23.4 points per game and 24th in the NFL with 354.5 yards given up per game.
Orr remains a strong defensive mind, and he is likely to land another job if Minter does not choose to keep him on staff.
