Ravens defensive backs coach reportedly leaves for John Harbaugh's staff cover image

The Baltimore Ravens have lost another coach to John Harbaugh, this time losing defensive backs coach Donald D’Alesio.

It is only natural when a head coach leaves that they take multiple assistant coaches with them. That is the case for Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh, who continues to round his staff out with assistants from his former team.

The latest coach that has been brought over to Harbaugh's staff is defensive backs coach Donald D’Alesio.

Matt Zenitz reported on the move, stating:

"The #Giants are currently expected to hire #Ravens defensive backs coach Donald D’Alesio, sources tell @CBSSports. Before joining Baltimore last year, D’Alesio worked for the #Chiefs for four years. Was a part of two Super Bowl wins during his Kansas City tenure."

D'Alesio joined the Ravens during the 2025 season as defensive backs coach, and he spent four seasons with the Kansas City Chiefs, where he was the safeties coach and landed two Super Bowl titles while with the team.

The former Ravens coach is expected to take the same role on Harbaugh's staff.

Harbaugh has been busy bringing over Ravens assistants, and D'Alesio is one of the many who are heading to New York to coach for the Giants.

Previous to the news that D'Alesio is joining Harbaugh, the former Ravens head coach brought over Chris Horton, the former special teams coordinator, and Willie Taggart.

Taggart served as the assistant head coach and running backs coach, and is now joining Harbaugh on the Giants.

Additionally, defensive line coach Dennis Johnson is also joining Harbaugh's staff after spending the past two seasons with the Ravens.

Losing coaches is always a part of a regime change, and conversely, new Ravens head coach Jesse Minter will be bringing in his own staff as well. This is likely to contain some staffers he may have worked with as part of the Los Angeles Chargers.

Minter will need to start ramping up and filling his staff, but he has also retained some coaches from Harbaugh's staff, such as Tyler Santucci, who serves as a defensive assistant, and Randy Brown, who serves as a senior special teams coach.

Either way, the Minter and Harbaugh staffs are starting to take shape, and the Ravens will just have to hire new replacements for those who have left to join the former head coach in New York.
