Ravens' Derrick Henry lands AFC Offensive Player of the Month after historic game cover image

Baltimore Ravens running back Derrick Henry was named the AFC Offensive Player of the Month after his huge career game against the Packers.

Baltimore Ravens running back Derrick Henry put together an impressive performance against the Green Bay Packers, which helped lead the team to their upcoming AFC North division battle.

Henry secured 36 carries for 216 yards and four touchdowns, helping propel the team to a dominant 41-24 final score.

Due to Henry's massive game, he was named the AFC Offensive Player of the Week.

This is the 10th Player of the Week honor that Henry has received in his 10 seasons in the NFL. It is also the third-most among non-active quarterbacks.

Henry put on a spectacular performance, which has everyone buzzing. Fellow Ravens players spoke about it, including Kyle Van Noy, who indicated that the team always tries to get him the ball.

There was some chatter and controversy regarding Henry's utilization in the New England Patriots game, as he was seldom used in the fourth quarter. However, Ravens head coach John Harbaugh indicated it was due to switching offensive series with Keaton Mitchell.

Harbaugh even spoke about the game, calling Henry's running "one of the best performances I have ever seen."

Regardless, that was not the case during the Packers' win. The game plan for the Steelers matchup should be to use Henry early and often to get the run game established.

Henry securing a Player of the Week honor wasn't the only historic news he was named to following the game.

Henry is now in the top 10 in career rushing yards, passing Tony Dorsett. His total of 12,892 rushing yards is also close to surpassing the 13,259 that Eric Dickerson currently has.

Henry also moved into fourth all-time in rushing touchdowns with 122, passing Adrian Peterson, who has 120. The Ravens back is also one away from tying third-place Marcus Allen, who has 123.

Should Baltimore put together another rushing performance as they did against the Packers, they could win the AFC North division while Henry etches his name further in the NFL record books.

The Ravens have a lot of work to do, but they have the big benefit of having one of the most dangerous running backs in Henry. If he can get loose in the Steelers game and stay hot in the playoffs, Baltimore could become a big dark horse candidate for the Super Bowl.
