Baltimore Ravens head coach Jesse Minter spoke about Elijah Sarratt and Ja'Kobi Lane, indicating one may see a lot of playing time in 2026.

When teams draft rookie players, the expectations are that they can take the field sooner rather than later. For the Baltimore Ravens, many of those players drafted may have to take a backseat due to seniority and skills from veterans in their respective positions.

One position that the Ravens have needed a boost in is the wide receiver department. General manager Eric DeCosta took USC's Ja'Kobi Lane in the third round, followed by Indiana's Elijah Sarratt in the fourth. While both may not see the field a lot, head coach Jesse Minter indicated he expects one of them to get a major opportunity.

"Yeah, I think you know when you draft guys third and fourth round, especially you know kind of two guys at the position, I do think that you know most of the time you'll probably end up getting hopefully both of them, like in a perfect world they both you know develop and play really well. I do think there'll be major opportunities for at least one of them," Minter said.

Though Minter may not have intended to do so, he could have just revealed what may be one of the most exciting training camp battles.

The Ravens are still engaged in minicamp, and both Sarratt and Lane have been taking advantage of Zay Flowers and Rashod Bateman not being at practice, as both hauled in some impressive catches. One of which was a bomb to Sarratt from Lamar Jackson.

Both rookies have a ton of promise, and it will be interesting to see who will line up next to Flowers and Bateman.

Lane finished his collegiate career with 1,363 yards and 18 touchdowns. At 6-foor-4, he has the length to be a red zone target for Jackson.

Sarratt was far more productive, hauling in 2,978 yards and 31 touchdowns. He also has a contested catch rate percentage of 58.3, per Pro Football Focus.

Per the official Ravens site breakdown of minicamp, Sarratt has been impressing and building some good chemistry with Jackson.

Simply put, the Ravens need another pass catcher, and this could be the chance for one or both rookies to make an impact. Minter indicated that one of the pair is slated to get a big opportunity, but things can change quickly.

Bateman has not lived up to the money he has received thus far, and 2026 could be an important year for him to prove that the team's patience has not been wasted. However, if he does emerge as a strong pass catcher for the offense, both rookies could be given some valuable reps when the season begins.

Either way, it sounds like both are angling to make their mark in minicamp, but the real test will be then the pads come on during training camp, and the real football can be showcased in a more significant way.
