Baltimore Ravens head coach Jesse Minter has offered injury updates on quarterback Lamar Jackson and center Cam Jurgens.
The Baltimore Ravens have been without quarterback Lamar Jackson for two games, and the team has now gone 1-1 in that time. Jackson has been out due to a sprained ankle, but he could be back this week.
During media availability on Monday, head coach Jesse Minter revealed an update on Jackson and center Cam Jurgens.
Jackson suffered a sprained ankle in the first half of the team's Week 4 game against the Tennessee Titans and has not been able to take the field since then. While backup quarterback Tyler Huntley orchestrated a comeback in Week 5 against the Atlanta Falcons, he fell flat in Week 6.
Baltimore did not lose big to the Cleveland Browns, but they lost on a last-second field goal in an important divisional matchup that might matter a great deal more down the line.
That said, it appears that Jackson may be ready to practice on Wednesday, but Minter did not offer a definitive answer.
"I think I'd still put it in the day-to-day thing still. We'll know a lot more on Wednesday, I'd say," Minter said.
Minter was then asked if he expects that Jackson will be at practice at some point this week; he said "potentially."
Getting Jackson back will be paramount for the Ravens' offense to get back to its natural prowess.
Antoher big injury on the offensive side of things hangs with Jurgens.
The Ravens made a trade to bring Jurgens over from the Philadelphia Eagles, but he had been in concussion protocol when the trade occurred. He was not prepared to play in Week 6, but there is a chance that he may be ready to go for Week 7.
"We feel that it's come a long way over the weekend and that there's a real opportunity for him. I don't know, deal maybe today or tomorrow as we go, but we are excited to potentially get him in there this week," Minter said of Jurgens.
Jurgens being able to play will be important due to the construction of the offensive line. The line struggled against the tough Cardinals front, and that may have been due to the Ravens utilizing their third-string right guard, Emery Jones Jr.
Jurgens playing center will lead to rookie guard Vega Ioane returning to his position at right guard, and could help to strengthen the line in a major way.
Baltimore has yet to start their practices for their Week 7 matchup with the Cincinnati Bengals. With another tough divisional opponent ahead, it will be even more important for the Ravens to secure the win.
Getting Jackson and Jurgens back would be a huge boost to the offense, but it all depends on if they are at practice early this week.
Wednesday will be the truest test of both of their availability, and Minter did not sound as confident about Jackson being on the field as he was with Jurgens. Missing one day of practice might also not be terrible for the Ravens quarterback, but missing two might point to him missing a third straight game.
