Baltimore Ravens head coach Jesse Minter offered an update on Nate Wiggins following the cornerback being carted off the field.
The Baltimore Ravens have now been hit with their second significant injury of training camp.
Cornerback Nate Wiggins collided with rookie wide receiver Ja'Kobi Lane, and the result was Wiggins hitting the ground hard and having to be carted off the field. He appeared to be favoring his left leg, which he could not put weight on.
Now, Ravens head coach Jesse Minter has offered a big update on the situation.
"I think there is optimism. Again, we'll look at it and see where it's at. It's one of those plays, not really much between the two guys on the play. Whether it was hitting the ground or whatever it was, we'll see where it's at," Minter said.
Minter did not provide much in terms of the seriousness of the injury that Wiggins has suffered, but he did emphatically indicate that he is unsure of how long the cornerback will be out.
"I really don't know yet," Minter said.
Minter did speak on the cornerback room being in a good spot in general, which may have been his way of indicating that the unit will be fine should Wiggins be out for an extended period.
Chidobe Awuzie, Marlon Humphrey, T.J. Tampa, Keyon Martin, and Chandler Rivers all got shout-outs from Minter, as he said he "feels really good" about the room.
Getting carted off the field is never a good sign, and this comes right after Wiggins underwent offseason groin surgery. The cornerback initially stated that he had been playing hurt since his high school days and finally felt 100 percent.
Now, Wiggins may be facing a signficant leg injury.
Zay Flowers also suffered a similar injury, which led to a quad contusion and a couple of days off practice. That may not be the case for Wiggins, but the Ravens may also be hoping for a similar outcome for their cornerback.
Wiggins may have played hurt in 2025, but he put together a solid performance that included three interceptions, 14 passes defended, and 76 total tackles.
The Ravens are expecting that Wiggins can take another step in 2026, especially after undergoing surgery for an underlying groin issue that had bothered him for years.
More testing will come for Wiggins, and Minter will undoubtedly offer an update on the severity of the injury when it comes.
Again, being carted off the field is never a good sign, but Wiggins might also luck out and possibly have only suffered an injury that will keep him out for the remainder of training camp and preseason.
Minter already stated that established players will not play in the first preseason game and that may have already included Wiggins, previous tot he injury.
