The Baltimore Ravens' secondary has been missing one of its best players in safety Ar'Darius Washington. Washington suffered a torn Achilles tendon in May and has since been recovering and working his way back to the field.
Now, it appears that Washington could find his way back to the field soon, as head coach John Harbaugh offered a major update on his return.
Washington was a breakout defender in 2024, replacing Marcus Williams and Eddie Jackson in the secondary, and instantly becoming a strong figure on the field. He would win the starting role past Week 8, and the hope was that he would be as big a factor in 2025.
Unfortunately, the Achilles tear would sideline him through Week 13 of the regular season. Now, Harbaugh indicated to reporters that Washington has a chance to play in Week 14.
"There is a chance that Ar'Darius plays this week, actually," Harbaugh said.
Harbaugh was asked about Washington and linebacker Tavius Robinson, who also returned to practice. Though he shut down the idea of Robinson being ready to go in Week 14, he quickly pivoted to indicate Washington is far closer to returning.
Baltimore also released the week's first injury report, which has both Washington and Robinson, and both were limited.
Robinson was limited with a foot injury, and Washington was also limited due to his Achilles injury. Should Washington be able to take the field, he will add an even bigger boost to an already improved secondary.
Kyle Hamilton was moved closer to the line of scrimmage due to the team trading for Alohi Gilman. However, with Washington returning, he could likely return to the safety position.
The Ravens might also place him in a more slot cornerback position, which he has experience playing as well.
Either way, getting back Washington could loom large, especially stopping the passing prowess of Aaron Rodgers and company.
The Steelers also brought in veteran Adam Thielen, bringing in another concern to an already dangerous passing game.
Washington returning to the secondary could also offer another element to Zach Orr's schemes, especially when shutting down the Steelers and more. He will need to presumably be upgraded from limited to full participant this week, but there is a chance the star safety will make his 2025 season debut.
