Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson was hit with a huge honor, as his high school retired his jersey, and more.
Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson is on track to become a Hall of Fame passer in the NFL. However, he has now been hit with a huge honor from his former high school.
Jackson was honored several times over by Boynton Beach High School, where he played football in Palm Beach. To start, he had his No. 7 jersey retired by the school.
Additionally, the street right outside the high school was renamed to "Lamar Jackson Way," and the MPH sign was changed to seven, to honor Jackson's jersey.
Jackson took the podium to give his thanks while also reminding the young minds in the audience with "Don't let anyone tell you guys you can do it..."
The now two-time MVP was one of the most dominant dual-threat quarterbacks back when playing at Boynton High School. During his time there, he compiled 2,263 passing yards, 31 touchdowns, and nine interceptions. He also had 1,624 rushing yards and 22 rushing touchdowns.
Following his standout high school career, Jackson was given the Lou Groza Award High School Player of the Year award, one of the highest honors that is given out annually.
Coming out of high school, Jackson was the No. 17 dual-threat prospect, per ESPN Recruiting. He was also the ninth-ranked prospect on 24/7 Sports.
His work ethic and playstyle would also lead to a hugely successful collegiate career with Louisville, where he was named ACC Player of the Year twice.
At Louisville, Jackson secured 9,043 yards, 69 touchdowns, and 27 interceptions, including 4,132 rushing yards and 50 rushing touchdowns.
Jackson would earn the Heisman Trophy in 2016, Maxwell Award, Walter Camp Award, and more.
Now, Jackson's success has led to an even stronger NFL career. His ability to be a downfield passer and rusher has led to two league MVP awards, one in 2019, where he threw 3,127 yards, 36 touchdowns, and six interceptions, along with 1,206 rushing yards, seven rushing touchdowns, and a league-leading 6.9 yards per rush average.
Jackson would also be given the MVP in 2023, bringing in 3,678 yards, 24 touchdowns, and seven interceptions, along with 821 rushing yards and five touchdowns.
There could be a big argument made that Jackson should have won his third MVP award in 2024, but that would go to Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen. Regardless, the Ravens quarterback continues to show why he is one of the best players in the league.
Jackson has many more years left, but he will undoubtedly be added to the Ravens Ring of Honor, and likely the Hall of Fame when his career is said and done.
