Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson is leading the NFL in an important stat.
The Baltimore Ravens may have stumbled against the New Orleans Saints, but it was not for lack of trying. A major reason for the team's success thus far, and what their success can become, is quarterback Lamar Jackson.
Jackson was expected to take a leap with new offensive coordinator Declan Doyle calling the shots on offense. That has apparently already been happening, as the Ravens' passer leads the league in a major stat.
The last two times that Jackson had a new offensive coordinator, he won the MVP award. The first time was in 2019 with Greg Roman, and then again in 2023 with Todd Monken.
Each time, these offensive minds found a way to unlock a new level of how Jackson can play the game. While it is still too early to tell just how impactful Doyle can be, the offense has shown some big play capabilities.
Week 1, Zay Flowers caught and ran for 150 receiving yards, while veteran Chris Moore caught a bomb from Jackson for 53 yards. Week 2 was similar, as Devontez Walker was the one who caught a 47-yard pass.
One of the major reasons for bringing Doyle in was to find a way to unlock or utilize those big plays, and that has been evident thus far.
Due to Jackson's throwing through two games, he leads the NFL with 10 yards per throw on average. The next closest is Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen, who has 9.7.
Jackson has clearly shown that he can sling the ball in the same manner that he did during the 2023 and 2024 seasons. The 2025 season was a struggle all around, and many might have forgotten just how accurate the Ravens' passer can be.
Now, Week 2 did see the offense struggle through the fourth quarter, which led to a 24-17 loss, but that is not solely attributable to the offense.
The Ravens cannot and are not looking to use a "new offense" as the reason things did not click against the Saints either, as it was simply an early-season stumble.
That said, if Doyle can continue showing the heights of what Jackson can do, this Baltimore offense may be one of the best by season's end.
Jackson himself said his goal is not to secure another MVP, but he is looking to finally get this team to the Super Bowl and to win it. That can certainly happen if he continues to evolve under Doyle, and it will be easier if he continues to lead the league in passing stats.
