Baltimore Ravens head coach Jesse Minter revealed a promising update on both Nate Wiggins and Marlon Humphrey.
The Baltimore Ravens ran into some major injury issues as cornerbacks Marlon Humphrey and Nate Wiggins suffered injuries during training camp.
Wiggins collided with rookie wide receiver Ja'Kobi Lane, and fell hard to the ground. The cornerback had to be helped up by trainers and was not putting weight on his left leg.
The result was Wiggins being carted off the field, and it was then reported that the defender had not suffered any structural damage, such as a ligament tear.
Minter had expressed optimism initially, meaning he was likely aware that Wiggins had not suffered the type of injury that would keep him out for a long-period.
Humphrey exited practice early, but it was not known what had transpired. Regardless, the Ravens could have lost two starting cornerbacks to major injuries in less than a week, but neither surprisingly suffered anything long-term.
Following Thursday's practice, Minter spoke to the media and stated that he expects to see Humphrey and Wiggins back as early as next week.
"I would say both are very are trending very well to potentially be back next week. So both just dealing with a couple of small things. I think got good reports on both of them and expect both of those guys back next week," Minter said.
There are still a few preseason games to deal with, and it was likely that neither Humphrey or Wiggins would have played in most, if any.
Minter had previously revealed that Lamar Jackson and "established" players would not be participating in the first preseason game. Whether or not he wants to see starters play in Week 2 of preseason remains to be seen.
Humphrey and Wiggins are two of the latest injury scares that the Ravens had to deal with.
Wide receiver Zay Flowers was also involved in a scary situation after colliding with safety Jaylinn Hawkins. Flowers limped off the field, but he was revealed to have only suffered a thigh contusion.
Flowers was back at practice a couple of days later, and now Humphrey and Wiggins are expected back relatively fast as well.
All three players are key to the Baltimore team being a success in 2026, and having to lose any one of them would have been a huge hit to the Ravens.
Now, they get a little bit of time to recover to prepare for the next preseason game on Saturday, Aug. 22 against the Minnesota Vikings.
Again, Minter has not stated whether or not he expects starters out for that game, but he will offer an update closer to the game's date. The usual case is for starters to be out in the final "dress rehearsal" third preseason game, but there is no guarantee that Minter follows that formula.
