Baltimore Ravens veteran cornerback Marlon Humphrey has loved what he’s seen from rookie wide receiver Ja’Kobi Lane.
Lane, who has made a ton of noise throughout training camp, has certainly made an impression on the Ravens' All-Pro defensive back. In his recent podcast, "The Marlon Humphrey Show," the 30-year-old praised the rookie pass catcher and said what makes Lane so special.
"He's probably had the best training camp of anybody on the team, to be honest,” Humphrey said.
"He low-key has really been hoopin. Very big time catch radius. A couple of times, I've been guarding him pretty tight, and I just see Lamar look at me," Humphrey added
The Ravens selected the former USC Trojan with the 80th overall pick in the third round of the 2026 NFL Draft. The 22-year-old has quickly made a name for himself and has a chance to be a legitimate focal point in the offense.
"I just see Lamar look at me. I'm like 'is he about to throw this?' And then he just throws it and I'm like 'why'd he throw that over his head?' And then I look up, and the dude is catching it. I'm like, what the frick. ... Thinking we got a legit threat in that guy," Humphrey said.
Lane has been one of the biggest standout stars of the Ravens, making multiple highlight plays in practice and in the preseason. Not only has Humphrey sung the praises of Lane, but so has Lamar Jackson.
Jackson recently told reporters that Lane is “different.”
Lane was certainly an intriguing pick for the Ravens, and so far, it looks like he could be an impactful player for the Baltimore offense. He has a long way to go in that department, but if preseason and training camp are any indication, that could very well be the case.
If Lane can continue his solid play thus far, there’s a chance he could be the WR2 behind Zay Flowers.
As for Humphrey, he’s set to enter his 10th season in the league, all with the Ravens. The former first-round pick is coming off an underwhelming 2025 campaign, recording one of the worst statistical and analytical seasons. From physical discomfort to injuries, they played a major role in his struggles.
Humphrey surrendered over 800 to 900 yards in coverage, which was by far the most among all cornerbacks in the league.
While that's never a good sign, Humphrey is expected to turn things around under Jesse Minter and defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver.
Humphrey and Lane are expected to play a significant role in their respective positions as the 2026 season slowly approaches.
The Ravens are set to play their third and final preseason game on Friday as they get set to take on the Washington Commanders.
Lane and Humphrey’s roles are solidified, so it’s unlikely they will play in the final preseason game. Minter has mostly kept starting players out of preseason action, and if Lane is not spotted in the final game, he will be a presumed starter.
