After 18 years, the Baltimore Ravens have moved on from future Hall of Fame head coach John Harbaugh, who successfully led the team to 12 playoff appearances and a Super Bowl victory in 2012.
However, that doesn't seem to be enough for Ravens owner Steve Bisciotti, who has set an ultimatum for Baltimore's future head coach.
During a recent press conference, Bisciotti revealed that the new head coach will have a timeline to win their first Super Bowl.
"Well, it took [Brian Billick] two years," Bisciotti said. "Uh, John five. Maybe I'll give this guy six."
"I mean, I hope we pick the kind of guy that's going to get us there," Bisciotti said. "I think we have a roster that's capable of it. I think we have a [general manager] that's capable of making that roster better on the fly."
"I'd probably give him five or six years as long as I like everything I see in him," Bisciotti said.
That being said, Bisciotti also revealed that a losing record would not be a dealbreaker when it comes to the new head coach.
"You know, it's kind of interesting because when we started focusing this, the very first thing I said to Eric and Sash was, unlike 18 years ago, I am very intrigued by coaches that were the hottest offensive and defensive coordinators five, six, seven years ago in their cycles and got jobs and went to teams that were non-competitive and didn't have a quarterback," Biciotti said.
"And they grind for three or for years and they're caught up in the cycle of my partners that are turning these, I think, it's average four year careers, right? I think the head coach is about four years."
"The one thing that I know that I will probably take it on the chin is if our final candidate is an ex-coach who has a losing record, and you all are going to have to understand that we are going to be able to judge that failure with his circumstances and marry that up and not disqualify them."
"It'd be very easy for me to try and avoid those ex-coaches because they have losing records, but I'm telling ya...we are keen to their circumstances. And we won't let their first shot at a job influence us negatively for this one."
The Ravens organization is clearly considering every option, having interviewed nine candidates already and reportedly interviewing six more. And it looks like whoever gets the position will have high expectations from the front office and the fans alike.
