Ravens reportedly hire Declan Doyle as offensive coordinator cover image

According to reports, the Baltimore Ravens have hired former Declan Doyle of the Chicago Bears as their new offensive coordinator.

The Baltimore Ravens are ready to start anew after a disappointing NFL season where they finished with an 8-9 record, missing the playoffs.

In response, the Ravens organization has brought on Jesse Minter as the new head coach, dismissing John Harbaugh after 18 years. And to help him bring Baltimore back to their former glory, they're reportedly hiring the Chicago Bears' Declan Doyle as their new offensive coordinator.

"ESPN sources: the Baltimore Ravens are hiring Bears offensive coordinator Declan Doyle as their offensive coordinator," Adam Schefter of ESPN said. "Doyle can leave because, in Baltimore, he will have play-calling responsibility. But new Ravens HC Jesse Minter now has someone to run Baltimore’s offense."

Doyle played a key role alongside head coach Ben Johnson in improving the game of quarterback Caleb Williams, helping the Bears become the sixth best offense in the NFL.

According to Schefter, the Ravens know that they need to hire an offensive coordinator with a single goal in mind: bring quarterback Lamar Jackson back to playing at an MVP level.

"They know they have a huge hire on their hands to make in [Baltimore] which will be instrumental in helping to elevate the play of Lamar Jackson," Schefter said. "And when we think of Jesse Minter and Lamar Jackson, if you go back and look at the clips of what Jesse Minter said when he was the Chargers defensive coordinator and they had to go up against Lamar Jackson.

"He said at that point in time when Justin Herbert was his quarterback, that Lamar Jackson was one of one, the best player in the league," Schefter continued. He wasn't even as clear of it today about it as he was back then when he was going up against Lamar Jackson.

"They are now looking at the offensive coordinator that they believe can restore Lamar Jackson's play and bring him back to an MVP level."

When it comes to developing a quarterback, it's hard to ignore Doyle and what he was able to do with Williams in Chicago.

In Williams rookie season, he led the Bears to a 5-12 record, completing 351 of 562 passes for 3,541 yards and 20 touchdowns. Additionally, he led the league and times sacked after being sacked 68 times for a total loss of 466 yards.

In his second season, Williams and the Bears finished with an 11-6 record, completing 330 of 568 passes for 3,942 yards and 27 touchdowns. Additionally, he was only sacked 24 times.

Doyle could easily do the same in Baltimore, especially with a quarterback as talented as Lamar Jackson.
